About the job
Are you looking for a new challenge in a dynamic environment? We are seeking a Thermodynamic Development & Base Calibration Engineer to join our headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese (BO). You will report to the Head of Powertrain, Design, Simulation & Development and work closely with the Thermodynamic Development & Base Calibration Coordinator.
Your responsibilities include engine thermodynamic development and base calibration, ensuring compliance with product specifications related to performance, fuel consumption, and homologation, within the project timeline.
You will handle the base calibration of the engine control unit, focusing on functions related to combustion actuations and physical models (air and fuel paths, torque, charge, knock and pre-ignition control, actuator management, etc.).
Additional responsibilities involve test planning and execution at powertrain test facilities (engine and powertrain test beds).
Your key processes will include:
Engine Testing and Calibration
* Thermodynamic testing and development
* Design and execution of test plans
* DOE measurements on test beds
* Robustness testing for performance, consumption, tolerances, and environmental conditions
* Data analysis using AVL Concerto, Cameo, ETAS MDA, and Matlab
* Methodology and tool development for calibration
* ECU calibration optimization with ETA INCA and AVL CRETA
* Documentation of results and technical reports
* Achieving performance and emission targets in compliance with regulations
* Engine development integrating mechanics and systems
* Supporting calculations and analysis post-engine testing
* Team meetings, scheduling, and cross-department coordination
About you
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in the automotive sector
* Experience in engine calibration and thermodynamic development of internal combustion engines
* Fluent in English; German is a plus
* Deep understanding of internal combustion engine thermodynamics
* Knowledge of transmission, electric powertrain, and system integration
* Understanding of electronic, IT, and control engineering
* Experience with Boost and Charge Control calibration
* Experience with Exhaust temperature and GPF models calibration
* Familiarity with 0D physical models and simulation
* Test bench management skills
* Strong mathematical and troubleshooting skills
* Analytical mindset and problem-solving abilities
* Willingness to travel and flexible attitude
