Ruolo The COGS & B2B Controller is responsible for understanding, explaining, and anticipating COGS evolution across SYNLAB’s main business lines — Medical Centers (mainly doctors’ costs) and Laboratories (materials, labor, Opex, depreciation, and leasing).
The role combines analytical depth with business partnering, ensuring accurate month-end reporting, insightful variance analysis, and continuous improvement of the cost-per-test model within SAP.
As Finance Business Partner for the B2B segment, the role also drives customer profitability analysis, supports new client acquisition through business cases, and provides actionable insights to optimize margins.
Additionally, the role monitors, challenges, and coordinates the certification of cost improvement program (CIP), and oversees production volume analysis and forecasting to ensure alignment between operational trends and financial performance.
Main Responsibilities
Lead monthly COGS closing activities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and clear variance explanations.
Consolidate and explain COGS performance across business lines, identifying key drivers and trends.
Maintain and enhance the SAP profitability model, ensuring robust and up-to-date cost-per-test calculation logic.
Monitor, challenge, and certify SALIX (Matex) cost improvement initiatives, ensuring proper tracking and P&L; reflection.
Analyze and forecast laboratory production volumes, understanding their impact on cost absorption, productivity, and profitability.
Reporting on the performance of the overall laboratory / operations of SYNLAB Italia, both at the level of operating KPIs, economic performance (P&L;) and indicators / ratio crossing
Partner with Operations to provide insights and foresights on cost efficiency and productivity opportunities.
Act as finance reference point for the B2B segment: prepare and evaluate business cases for new customer acquisitions.
Perform customer-level profitability analyses, identifying and proposing corrective actions.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis related to COGS, production volumes, and B2B revenues.
Contribute to continuous process improvement and automation within Finance and Operations.
Other: new / review exam cost calculation (STD), lab costing update - BoM / CPT analysis, various laboratory analysis, spot analysis on margins for BCP / customer / exam.
Profile Requirements
Degree in Economics, Finance, or related field
5-7 years of experience in controlling, preferably in healthcare, pharma, or manufacturing
Strong analytical and financial modelling skills
Proficiency in SAP CO and Excel
Business partnering mindset with ability to challenge constructively
Fluent in English
