Duration: 3-year Fixed Term with potential for extension depending on funding
Remuneration: $127,947-$150,831 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading

Location: Hybrid, On-site minimum 3 days a week at UNSW's Kensington Campus, NSW, Australia

Details of the Role
The Research Fellow (Health Economist) will partner with economists, epidemiologists, mathematical modellers, and social scientists to evaluate public health interventions targeting infectious diseases, with a major focus on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Africa and the Pacific.
Responsibilities include conducting cost-effectiveness and budget impact assessments alongside trials and programmatic implementation of mass drug administration regimens, such as moxidectin for onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis.
Evaluate different financing mechanisms for sustainable investment in NTDs, predominantly supported by a Synergy grant from the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Work closely with members of the Health Economics and Health Systems Research and Neglected Tropical Diseases Groups and key partners in the countries where the groups operate.
The role reports to the head of the Health Economics and Health Systems Research Group and has no direct reports.
Essential Key Skills
PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., health economics, public health, economics) with substantial experience in designing or evaluating public health interventions.
Experience undertaking economic evaluations and budget impact assessments.
Demonstrated ability to lead or co-lead economic evaluations alongside trials of health interventions, using STATA and/or R.
Experience modelling long-term health outcomes and costs of public health interventions.
Oversee and ensure the quality, integrity and security of project datasets.
Assist in training and managing field teams across Australian and overseas study sites.
Communicate findings through project reports, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications, including as lead author.
Strong research output evidenced by peer-review publications, scientific presentations and involvement in securing research funding.
Desired Key Skills
Experience evaluating interventions targeting NTDs.
Experience working in low- and middle-income countries and/or resource-constrained settings.
Experience mentoring project staff and supervising higher-degree students.
