Mechanisms Design Engineer We are looking for a Mechanisms Design Engineer to define project solutions for mechanisms used in space mission vehicles, working with both metallic and composite materials. The candidate will analyze subsystem requirements, design mechanisms, select components, support procurement, and ensure mass‑efficient solutions that meet mission loads such as re‑entry and landing impact loads. The role requires multibody analysis skills, detailed local modeling, and the ability to develop test articles and breadboards to validate designs. Knowledge of CAD and drawing standards is essential, and the engineer will coach and support the development of junior team members. Key Duties
Design spacecraft mechanisms for both manned and non‑manned modules and satellites, including:
Definition and sizing of mechanism parts and interfaces by hand calculation or preliminary multibody and FEM analysis. Selection of materials, surface treatments, and required tolerances. Review of CAD models and drawings.
Multibody modeling and analysis with ADAMS or Motion View/Motion Solver. Support the development and verification plan of spacecraft mechanisms. Reporting: create design and analysis reports, support design and development plans, and contribute to instrumentation plans for mechanical testing. Occasional tasks include:
Design verification through structural analysis using hand calculation or FEM. Support to static, kinematic, and dynamic testing preparation, attendance, and results evaluation. Specification, design, development, and modeling of mechanisms and control laws using MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required
Must have:
Mechanical Engineering knowledge and expertise. Knowledge of metallic and non‑metallic technologies (materials or processes). Understanding of aerospace design and analysis methodologies and manuals (e.g., Bruhn, Roarks). Knowledge of tribology. Proficiency in CAD and CAM processes. Reading and understanding manufacturing drawings. Full capability with the Windows Office suite. Experience with a multibody analysis tool (ADAMS or Motion View).
Additional assets:
Knowledge of Nastran solver. Experience with an FEM pre‑/post‑processor (HyperWorks, Femap, Patran). Matlab, Mathcad, Simulink or equivalent.
Master’s Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering (a Master or specific course in Mechanical Design is an added asset). Prior experience in structural or mechanical engineering for systems and mechanical structures is an asset. Languages: very good written and spoken English (French language knowledge is an additional asset).
Contract and Compensation
Type of contract: Permanent. Experience required: 0‑1 year. CCNL: Met/Ind – B1. Salary range: €34,637.14 – €36,010.13 per year. Performance bonus (PDR) up to €4,025.
