We are looking for a Cloud Platform Architect to work at Starion's premises in Frascati, Italy.
Bring your expertise in cloud technologies, interoperability standards, and cloud-based Earth Observation (EO) applications to life, designing, building, and deploying solutions that turn space data into real-world impact.
About the client and location
STARION Group's offices in Italy are based in the city of Frascati, located a short 30 minutes outside of Rome. Home to many of our expert employees, our Italian team focuses on services for the European Space Agency (ESA) at their Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN), amongst other projects. Here we also harness capabilities for cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI) on both space and non-space projects.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
Collecting requirements and overviewing the design, implementation, and maintain cloud-based systems for EO data extraction and processing.
Ensuring interoperability across platforms using established standards (e.g., OGC, ISO).
Collaborating with data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts to integrate EO data workflows.
Supporting activities performing the development of scalable, secure, and efficient cloud applications.
Monitoring system performance and troubleshoot issues related to EO data pipelines.
Documenting system architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science Engineering, Geoinformatics, or related field.
At least 5 years of experience in system engineering with a focus on cloud platforms.
Proven experience with EO data workflows and cloud-native technologies.
Strong understanding of interoperability standards (e.g., OGC APIs, STAC, WMS/WFS).
Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., S3, EC2, Lambda, Cloud Functions).
Experience in deploying and testing EO platform components in production environments.
Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
Knowledge of EO data formats (e.g., GeoTIFF, NetCDF, HDF5).
Experience with data cataloging and metadata standards.
Programming skills in Python, Java, or similar languages.
Experience with open-source EO platforms (e.g., OpenEO, Sentinel Hub).
