About the Role A Lecturer (Level B) / Senior Lecturer (Level C) is expected to develop scholarly research and professional activities, and contribute to the teaching and service missions of the School. At Associate Professor (Level D) level, the role includes leading and advancing outstanding research and professional activities. International visa sponsorship is possible for the right candidate. Five roles are advertised; a single application is required. Responsibilities and Expectations Level B Responsibilities
Demonstrate and continuously develop a well‑defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning. Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in statistics and research methods in line with UNSW policy. Design and develop learning activities and resources, and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments. Initiate development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning statistics and research methods with the support of senior academics. Support learning progression with students as individuals and as a cohort to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes. Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance. Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant). Make a positive contribution to School meetings and seminars and be a member of School / Faculty committees as required. Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in psychology in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice. Create scholarly impact recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge in psychology. Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team, and design research projects in psychology. Contribute to development of applications for competitive funding under guidance of senior colleagues, including acting as co‑investigator or chief investigator in grant applications. Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through supervision of HDRs. Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values. Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
Level C Responsibilities (in addition to the above)
Apply a well‑defined teaching philosophy and a critically reflective teaching practice that inspires student learning. Maintain and develop links within the discipline industry and profession (e.g., contribute to professional development activities). Work collaboratively to identify and apply for internal education funding opportunities. Undertake independent research and make independent contributions that have a significant impact in the field of perception and create a nationally recognised research track record. Develop research groups in areas of specialist expertise and research methods that are appropriate to the discipline. Attract peer recognition and establish research networks at national level. Obtain research income from nationally competitive research grants and research end‑users as a member or leader, at or above the level relevant to the discipline in leading universities.
Level D Responsibilities (in addition to the above)
Engage in peer review and disseminate best‑practice in education. Contribute to support strategies for learning progression and to the review, development and/or design of curriculum. Provide administrative and academic leadership at School, Faculty and University levels, working collaboratively with peers and contributing to broader institutional and national teaching and learning initiatives. Engage with academic, professional and international organisations relevant to the objectives of the School and Faculty, undertaking knowledge exchange activities and contributing to commercialisation of research outcomes. Carry out original/innovative research, actively contributing to the advancement of knowledge in perception, including making contributions to the discipline recognised at a national level with emerging international impact. Establish a distinguished program of research at UNSW and build a research group in the area of perception, establishing research network(s) at an international level and participating in major research collaborations. Demonstrate an established record of substantial research income, primarily as a grant application leader, consistent with that of a national leader in their field of research in leading universities. Lead significant research proposals submitted to competitive funding bodies and in terms of impact on the end users of research. Recruit HDRs based on research reputation and supervise HDRs to timely completion as primary supervisor.
Selection Criteria / Qualifications Level B Criteria
A PhD in Psychology or a related discipline. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery in statistics and research methods at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g., relevant discipline‑based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales). Demonstrated knowledge of industry or experience of work‑integrated learning (desirable). Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact and desire to continually achieve research excellence and capacity for research leadership. A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry. High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
Level C Criteria (in addition to the above)
Demonstrated success in initiating curriculum development and improvement. Demonstrated experience with industry or work‑integrated learning. Experience in successfully recruiting and supervising high‑calibre students. Demonstrated ability to interact with the profession and industry and attract funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
Level D Criteria (in addition to the above)
Evidence of professional development of teaching practice in self and others with the ability to advance and lead an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching. Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and high international impact and desire to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership. Excellent record of recruiting and supervising high‑calibre students. Demonstrated leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry.
