Payroll Specialist Consultant Position Overview

This position is an exciting opportunity at the heart of Avaaz. The Payroll Specialist Consultant is responsible for overseeing the transition of our payroll systems and leading the end to end Project Management as we transition our systems to our UK entity. This includes leading the scoping, design, and implementation of a compliant and efficient global payroll solution. This role will ensure a smooth and seamless transition of our payroll services, ensuring minimal disruption while future proofing our internal systems. You will work closely with People and Culture, Compliance and Operations team

This position will report directly to our COO.

Responsibilities

Discovery & Scoping

* Map out current payroll structures and processes across all jurisdictions
* Identify gaps and future requirements under the Avaaz Foundation UK structure
* Assess legal and tax implications of operating payroll from the UK for a global team
* Lead discovery sessions with key stakeholders across P&C, Finance, and Compliance
* Deliver a comprehensive audit of current payroll with a proposed transition framework

Solution Design

1. Research and assess global payroll vendors (including platforms such as ADP, Cloudpay, Lano, Mercans, BDO UK)
2. Provide side-by-side cost and feature comparisons of 2 to 3 top solutions
3. Ensure proposed solutions support integrations with platforms like Okta, Humaans, and other financial systems
4. Present recommendations to Leadership (COO, Head of People & Culture ) for decision-making

Implementation & Transition

5. Lead the end-to-end rollout of the selected payroll solution
6. Oversee data migration, testing, and reconciliation
7. Ensure full registration and deregistration of employer entities (e.g. deregister US, register UK in Canada and France)
8. Document payroll processes and train internal P&C and Finance teams
9. Provide clear implementation timelines and transition milestones

Qualifications

The following list of qualifications is what we believe gives you the experience required to work in our environment and deliver on the responsibilities listed above. 10. Proven experience leading global payroll transitions or implementations
11. Strong understanding of UK legal, tax, and employment frameworks
12. Familiarity with global employment structures, including PEO / EOR arrangements
13. Prior experience selecting and integrating payroll systems and platforms
14. Excellent organisational and project management skills
15. Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to collaborate across functions
16. Ability to translate complex processes into clear, documented workflows
17. High levels of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial and HR data

Self-driven and proactive with strong attention to detail

18. Passion and commitment to global justice, citizen empowerment, and social change.
19. Proficient in Google Suite and online communication systems (Slack, Zoom, etc).
20. Excellent written and verbal skills in English; additional languages are an asset.

Location

Avaaz is a virtual organisation, with most of our work done online. Our staff are based all over the world. For this role, we’re ideally looking for someone based in the CET or EST time zone to maximise overlap with internal teams.

Compensation

Our pay is highly competitive with leading international non-governmental organisations starting at GBP / EUR5,250 or USD7,600 per month. The final pay will be adjusted based on location and relevant experience. An accurate range in local currency will be provided to candidates during the screening process.
