In January 2023, the six universities of the UNITA alliance — the University of Turin, the University of Savoie-Mont Blanc, the University of Pau et des Pays de l'Adour, the University of Zaragoza, the University of Beira Interior, and the West University of Timișoara — signed the founding act of the UNITA-Universitas Montium European Economic Interest Grouping (GEIE), the first of its kind in Europe. This signing represents a significant step in strengthening institutional collaboration among alliance members and marks important progress toward the goal of building a European University.
The UNITA GEIE provides a concrete framework to experiment with new forms of transnational cooperation and to facilitate academic collaboration at the European level, in alignment with the European Commission's strategies for higher education. Its main objective is to support the alliance’s activities across the core missions of the university: education, research, and societal engagement.
The UNITA GEIE will contribute to delivering high-quality education to students and supporting research staff through reinforced, transdisciplinary partnerships that foster innovation both locally and on a European scale.
Today, UNITA GEIE includes two additional full partners — the Public University of Navarre and Transilvania University of Brașov — as well as one associate partner: the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (Haute École Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale ).

Role overview:
As Project Scouter, you will be directly employed by UNITA GEIE to identify, catalyze, and support the development of collaborative projects within the alliance. Your work will be crucial in advancing UNITA GEIE’s mission to support the UNITA alliance in its development towards an institutionalized European university, leveraging its unique legal structure to maximize impact and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project identification : proactively scout innovative project opportunities aligned with UNITA’s strategic priorities (cultural heritage, circular economy, green energies, global health, digital transition, inclusive societies).
* Stakeholder engagement : connect with academic, research, administrative, and external partners across the UNITA ecosystem, including associated partners in the socio-economic sector, public authorities, and civil society.
* Team formation : support the creation of interdisciplinary and transnational project teams by encouraging broad participation from member universities and regions, and fostering regular collaboration with local European project management offices at each UNITA partner institution.
* Project development support : guide teams in project design, identify relevant European and international funding opportunities.
* Process facilitation: navigate the unique legal and administrative framework of UNITA GEIE to streamline project implementation, resource pooling, and policy alignment.
* Monitoring and reporting : track project progress, collect data for evaluation, and contribute to the dissemination of results.
Required qualification and skills:
* Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant field;
* Have at least 3 years of experience in project development, research management, or international collaboration, preferably within higher education or research settings;
* Knowledge of European funding programs (e.g., Erasmus+, Horizon Europe);
* Understanding of the European context with experience in an European institution/association in Brussels is highly desirable;
* Excellent communication, networking, and intercultural skills;
* Proficiency in Italian and English. Knowledge of at least one Romance language of UNITA’s Universities (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian);
* Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects;
* Familiarity with digital project management tools;
* Understanding of the legal and operational context of European Economic Interest Groupings is highly desirable;
* Responsiveness, thoroughness and responsibility;
* Adaptation and flexibility.

Employment conditions:
The terms of the employment could be agreed by all parties considering the candidate’s availability, ongoing collaborations and expertise. The role may be structured or as a freelance collaboration or as a two-year fixed-term contract. The salary will be commensurate with position-related knowledge, experience and skills relevant to the position.Initially a minimum committment of 20 hours per week is required, with work carried out both in presence and remotely, if necessary, based on agreement and specific needs.
