APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: September 23rd 2025 The Human Technopole Foundation (HT) is an interdisciplinary research institute, created and supported by the Italian government, whose aim is to develop innovative strategies to promote human health and healthy aging through a multidisciplinary and integrated approach, combining genomics, computational biology, structural biology, neuroscience and health data science. HT scientists work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment to help promote life science research nationally and internationally. In line with its mission to serve the research community at large, HT operates National Facilities, specifically aimed at making HT’s technologies, methods and tools available to the national scientific community.

The Human Technopole Foundation is looking for a

Cybersecurity Engineer

to work within the Data Centre Facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the organization's Cybersecurity strategies to ensure the protection of digital assets and data. This role involves support on developing security policies, conducting security assessments, responding to security incidents, and providing support for ongoing efforts to secure organizational systems. The Cybersecurity Engineer works closely with other departments to ensure the Institute’s Cybersecurity posture robustness and alignment with industry best practices and reports to the Cybersecurity Manager.

Your main tasks and responsibilities: Support the Institute’s Cybersecurity strategies and ensure data protection; Support the Cybersecurity Manager and all areas involved in the execution of activities aimed at fulfilling strategic Cybersecurity decisions; Support the ICT team in taking appropriate measures to protect the organization’s digital assets; Support in maintaining and implementing Cybersecurity regulations, guidelines and procedures; Support other Areas in the development of regulations in terms of security; Implement security measures and controls; Collaborate with Digital Services Area to implement and maintain a Change Management Database (CMDB); Collaborate with Area Network to implement firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS/IPS) and Virtual Private Networks (VPN); Monitor network traffic to identify suspicious activity and possible security breaches; Ensure the security of cloud and on-premise infrastructures; Perform vulnerability analysis and penetration testing; Apply patches and updates to reduce attack risks; Use SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools for incident monitoring; Analysing and containing threats in the event of breaches; Cooperate with CERTs, government agencies and law enforcement agencies in the event of cyber attacks; Monitor, investigate and resolve cyber security incidents; Intervene in case of cybersecurity issues; Ensure the security of sensitive data through encryption and controlled access; Apply all needed activities to comply with data governance regulations for information protection; Support in ensuring that the Foundation complies with regulations, laws and regulations such as GDPR, NIS2, ISO27001, CIS; Support in assessing risks (risk assessment) related to Cybersecurity and conducting periodic assessment audits; Maintain Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions; Control and restrict user access privileges according to Cybersecurity Manager’s guidelines; Make employees aware of cyber risks (e.g. phishing, social engineering); Support in delivering training courses and simulated attacks; Promote Cybersecurity best practices, such as the use of strong passwords and multi-factor authentication; Verify the authenticity of users with strong authentication systems, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA); Monitor trends in cyber threats and new attack techniques; Analyse the dark web and other sources to prevent targeted attacks; Share threat information with other companies and security organizations.

Requirements

Mandatory requirements: High school diploma; At least 5 years of experience in IT security or Cybersecurity roles, with hands-on experience in monitoring, assessing, and responding to Cybersecurity threats; Strong understanding of Cybersecurity threats, risks, and mitigation techniques; Familiarity with Cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and regulations; Expertise in security tools and technologies (e.g., EDR, SIEM, Log collectors, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, VA-PT Techniques, etc.); Fluency in English (written and spoken); Fluency in Italian (written and spoken).

Preferred requirements: University degree in Computer Science or related fields; Previous experience as a member of a SOC or RED team; Professional certifications in Cybersecurity (e.g.: Security+, SC-200, CEH); Previous experience with a similar role in another Research Institute.

Organizational and social skills: Analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex Cybersecurity challenges; Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders; Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines; Strong team player with a collaborative mindset; Adaptability in a fast-paced environment and willingness to embrace new challenges.
