Overview The Site WHS officer will be responsible for partnering with a site operations team in a Delivery Station to execute company safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable local and regional regulations. The individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risk in our processes, ensuring a safe and healthful working environment for Associates. They will build trust with the Operations Team, influence change through risk assessments and safety data analysis, communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms, instruct and train Operations Leaders on company safety policies, and incorporate best practices to continuously improve company safety policies. The officer will possess excellent safety program and relevant safety, environmental, and ergonomic knowledge, lead safety team members (Safety Specialist, Safety Coordinators, Onsite first aid Associates), and develop leadership plans and performance expectations for the safety team.
Key Job Responsibilities
Support an assigned site(s), coordinate, and assist in the implementation of Amazon WHS procedures and programs as directed by WHS leadership. Partner with site stakeholders to drive compliance with relevant Amazon WHS standards, procedures, and applicable local laws. Coach associates on new and existing WHS requirements, including their impact on the site. Partner with site operations and WHS leadership to tackle day‑to‑day risks, identify and elevate compliance risks, and seize improvement opportunities through routine inspections and audits. Create actions in response to findings identified during standard work implementations. Act as the proxy for the WHS Manager when assigned and complete all tasks allocated by the WHS Manager, including stretch assignments. Adhere to the scheduled shift to support site safety.
A Day in the Life
Daily deep dive of metrics, site safety audits/inspections, incident reporting and investigation, training, TBT, FGDs, stand‑up at site, AWHS committee meetings, communication on required safety matters, safety compliance adherence to Amazon WHS policies and procedures, PPE issuance and compliance, risk assessment, inventory management, and procurement of safety supplies.
About the Team Workplace, Health & Safety - Amazon Last Mile India Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent Experience in an environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field 2+ years of distribution or manufacturing field experience 2+ years of increasing responsibilities in EHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations experience Experience in reputed private or government organizations Experience managing multiple direct reports Must be flexible regarding shifts Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent Fulfillment Center or Manufacturing Safety experience with a mix of exempt and non‑exempt employees at a site of at least 200 people Experience in a fast‑paced, changing/growing organization Government Certified Safety Professional preferred Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with site leaders Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem‑solving ability Ability to adapt well to fast‑paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
