We are looking for a:
Diagnostic & Testing / Triage Engineer (Powertrain)
to join our engineering team in Michigan.
The role focuses on identifying, analyzing, and resolving issues in powertrain systems (ICE, HEV, BEV) during development and validation phases.
You will perform deep diagnostic analysis, lead root cause investigations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust and lasting solutions.
Main Responsibilities:
Perform detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for powertrain system malfunctions.
Analyze CAN traffic, UDS messages, DTCs, logs, and failure reports to isolate and understand issues.
Execute bench and vehicle-level testing using diagnostic and measurement tools (e.G. ETAS INCA).
Document findings, propose corrective actions, and track resolution progress.
Collaborate with Calibration, Controls, and Validation teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
Support quality processes such as 8D, DFSS, and A3 problem-solving methodologies.
Required Skills & Tools:
Strong knowledge of powertrain systems (Internal Combustion Engine, Hybrid, Battery Electric).
Experience with CAN / LIN communication, UDS, DTC/DID analysis.
Proficiency in ETAS INCA for logging, measurement, and diagnostic testing.
Familiarity with diagnostic frameworks, failure analysis, and quality tools (8D, DFSS, A3).
Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and structured problem-solving approach.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent).
Experience in automotive powertrain development, diagnostics, or validation.
Hands-on experience with vehicle testing and instrumentation.
