Your Purpose
The Fleet Environmental Compliance Officer’s primary responsibility is environmental compliance training, conducting onboard assessments, quality assurance, and quality control for our MSC Cruises fleet. This ensures the company's high standards are achieved and maintained within relevant laws and policies. The role includes assisting the Master with corporate policy training, evaluating environmental policies and procedures—including new builds—and interfacing with all managers onboard. A procedural approach to managing the Environmental Compliance program must be employed, utilizing up-to-date management principles and technological innovations to deliver high standards of environmental compliance support.
Your Impact
* Leads by example, utilizing a hands-on approach to training and management. Develops and trains a motivated, proactive Environmental Operations & Compliance team, including Environmental Compliance Officers and Waste Operators and Supervisors, upholding the highest ethical standards.
* Collaborates with ship's senior management to implement new environmental regulations and company policies, providing training and oversight of policies, procedures, manuals, and logbooks related to environmental management.
* Supports training of new staff during new ship deliveries, shipyard projects, and ongoing expansion efforts.
* Works with the technical department to follow up on maintenance of environmental-related equipment, suggesting improvements to standards and cost efficiency.
* Implements corporate environmental policies and training programs across the fleet. Assists shipside teams with waste sorting and participates in environmental inspections and quality assurance onboard.
* Develops and evaluates the knowledge and performance of Environmental Compliance Officers and waste operators. Assists the Master with environmental training and enforcement, providing reports to relevant stakeholders.
* Supports the implementation of ISO 14001 & ISO 21070 programs onboard, recommending improvements.
* Stays updated on environmental compliance trends, sharing knowledge with the team, and developing positive relationships across departments.
* Assists in planning environmental voyage plans and training related to portals, databases, and reporting platforms. Supports external/internal audits and inspects logbooks for accuracy.
Your Journey so far
* Proven shipboard experience in the cruise industry, specifically as an Environmental Officer.
* Degree qualification in Environmental Education or similar, or significant onboard experience as an Environmental Officer.
* Ability to interpret complex regulations and environmental issues.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other operational platforms.
* Fluent in English; knowledge of Italian and other European languages is advantageous.
* Strong communication skills at all levels.
