Mission Analysis Engineering Thesis Internship (Ref. CC-J-05)

Capsule Corporation s.r.l. invites enthusiastic near‐graduate Master's students to join our team and contribute to cutting‐edge mission analysis for Cubesat and Smallsats applications. This unique opportunity focuses on analysing CubeSat missions using our WaterCube propulsion system, as well as developing methodology to reconstruct thruster performance from spacecraft orbital and attitude parameters.

What you will do

- Conduct mission analysis for Cubesats / Smallsats employing propulsion systems, including orbit maintenance, collision avoidance, and de‐orbiting.

- Simulate orbital manoeuvres and estimate required duration and performance.

- Develop methodologies to reconstruct thruster thrust performance based on satellite telemetry, including orbital and attitude parameters.

- Create algorithms and software tools to process and analyse mission data.

- Collaborate with internal teams to refine mission scenarios and propulsion system requirements.

- Clearly document and present designs at various stages of completion.

- Document the analysis process and present results to stakeholders, including institutional partners like ESA and ASI.

Mandatory Requirements

- Near‐graduate student in Aerospace Engineering, Space Engineering, or related field.

- Strong foundation in astrodynamics, orbital mechanics, and spacecraft mission design.

- Programming skills in Python, Matlab, Octave, or similar for data processing and algorithm development.

- Knowledge of control systems and spacecraft attitude dynamics.

- Basic knowledge of propulsion systems and their application in satellite missions.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

- Knowledge of MS Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) or similar open‐source equivalents.

It would be great if you also had some of the following skills

- Experience with version control systems such as Git.

- Basic experience with telemetry analysis or satellite operations.

- Knowledge of simulation tools such as GMAT, STK, or equivalent mission analysis software.

- Exposure to CubeSat standards and mission profiles.

- Hands‐on experience with simulation software and numerical modelling.

- Basic knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering principles.

- Knowledge of scientific document writing tools like LaTeX.

About you

- You must have the ability and desire to work in a young company. If you want a smooth and routine role, this is not for you. We believe in giving you the tools you need, then getting out of your way.

- You are a problem‐solver with a passion for space exploration and a strong interest in Cubesat and Smallsat missions. You enjoy tackling complex technical challenges and contributing to innovative solutions that shape the future of space mobility.

- We are looking for Master Thesis candidates who can take initiative, are willing to take risks and collaborate to solve complex and novel problems. This role requires full‐time commitment (40 hours/week). We can also evaluate part‐time needs on a case‐by‐case basis.

- Important! If you think you have what it takes but are unsure that you check every box, we still want to hear from you!

What we offer

- Path to permanent employment: At the end of the 6‐month internship, pending a positive review and company resources availability, you could be offered a permanent staff contract. Join us on our journey to revolutionise space propulsion and be an integral part of our growing team.

- Flexibility and autonomy: Enjoy a flexible work structure that allows you to work remotely whenever possible (when you are not required to work hands‐on the hardware). Our core working hours where we require you to be available are 11:00 – 12:30 and 14:00 – 16:00. You can manage your weekly schedule as you wish outside those time slots. Take charge of your schedule and manage your time efficiently, ensuring a healthy work‐life balance.

- Exciting career development: As an early joiner, you will have the opportunity to witness the development of our first product almost from scratch, as a protagonist. Gain invaluable experience in the burgeoning field of New Space projects and propel your career to new heights.

- Dynamic work environment: Join a team of passionate individuals in a flat hierarchy and friendly work environment. Collaborate with like‐minded professionals who share your drive for innovation and excellence.

- Vibrant location: Our company HQ is located in Milan, a vibrant and cosmopolitan city known for its rich culture and international flair. Immerse yourself in the dynamic atmosphere of Italy's fashion and design capital.
