Critical Operations Engineer (COE)
As a business-hours-based technical specialist, you will provide engineering expertise, operational governance, and focus on reliability and asset performance across STACK EMEA Data Centers.
You will be responsible for maintaining high-quality operational procedures, supporting safe and disciplined change execution, ensuring maintenance activities are properly planned, controlled, and documented. You will also provide technical oversight of vendor activities, contribute to incident diagnosis and recovery planning, and help drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and preventive actions.
What You’ll Do
* Create, review, maintain, and improve SMPs, SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs, ensuring technical accuracy, risk controls, monitoring points, rollback procedures, acceptance criteria, and evidence requirements
* Ensure high standards of procedure quality and maintain strict document control
* Lead or support pre-job briefings and method reviews, confirming all prerequisites are in place before execution, including tools, spares, isolations, monitoring, communications, escalation paths, and rollback plans
* Support preventive maintenance planning and optimisation, improving task quality, frequencies, compliance, and the elimination of recurring defects through structured reviews and lessons learned
* Contribute to the identification of critical spares, spares strategies, and vendor repair workflows for key assets
* Maintain accurate and comprehensive technical records to support KPIs, audits, and customer assurance requirements
* Provide technical oversight of vendors and contractors, validating maintenance methods, test results, installations, and close-out documentation
* Support the diagnosis of complex technical issues and develop effective recovery and restoration plans
* Coach and guide technicians and operations teams, contributing to training initiatives, competency development, and scenario-based drills
Who We’re Looking For
* Experience in facilities, operations, or engineering within mission-critical environments; Data Center or hyperscale experience preferred
* Strong knowledge of operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex M&E systems, including UPS, generators, LV distribution, transformers, cooling systems, controls/monitoring systems, and fire/life safety interfaces
* Solid understanding of safe systems of work, risk controls, and disciplined change execution in live operational environments
* Experience with BMS/SCADA platforms; knowledge of EPMS/DCIM systems is desirable
* Ability to read, interpret, and explain electrical single-line diagrams and system schematics accurately
* Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
* Good command of written and spoken English
* Excellent organisation, prioritisation, and stakeholder management skills
* A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on standardisation and raising engineering governance standards
