Thales people architect solutions that are relied upon to deliver operational advantage at every decisive moment throughout the mission. Defence and armed forces customers rely on us to deliver the full range of defensive systems for land, sea, and air. From early warning to threat neutralisation, our platforms cover all levels from very short-range systems to extended protection across the entire battlespace, including Airspace Mobility Solutions, Vehicles, Tactical Systems, and Missile Defence, Optronics, and Radar.
Gorgonzola hosts the Navigations Air Systems (NAS) domain. The activity of the NAS domain includes avionics navigation and radar systems for civil air traffic and technologies supporting the activities of civilian and military pilots, ATC controllers, and technicians of several airlines, air traffic control agencies, and Air Force around the world. Italy is the Group's Competence Center for the design, production, and delivery of Navigation Aids products, as well as for the delivery of non-Radar Surveillance Products.
We are currently seeking a Hardware Architect to join Thales Land and Air Systems at its Navaids Center of Competence in Gorgonzola (near Milan).
The Hardware Architect will be technically responsible for the hardware architecture, ensuring its consistency with the overall solution. This role involves coordination with the Solution Engineering Manager and PDA to ensure that the top-down refinement of the solution aligns with the hardware strategy and constraints, including COTS selection and components reuse.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks :
1. Define Hardware architectures in relation to the PDA, maintaining stability across lifecycle phases from Bid to Delivery.
2. Challenge and approve technical, technological, and methodological choices respecting the hardware architecture.
3. Conduct hardware architecture tradeoff analyses and utilize modeling, simulation, and prototyping as needed.
4. Provide expertise on state-of-the-art hardware architecture, considering future developments.
5. Participate in defining long-term strategy elements for Hardware Engineering (Core / Non-Core MTB, etc.).
6. Contribute to defining the WBS for hardware activities.
7. Prepare Design & Justification Files (D&JF) and design guidelines.
8. Ensure adherence to standards, reuse policies, and product development plans.
9. Contribute to defining strategies for evaluating and deploying processes, methods, and tools.
10. Make balanced tradeoffs between cost, customer requirements, and technological possibilities, and explain them clearly.
11. Influence key technical communities (Technical Directorate, System Engineering, Safety).
12. Coordinate and supervise the development team technically during solution implementation phases.
