This position reports to
R&D Local Unit Lead
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute to ABB’s success through technology, software, product, and system development. You will identify and implement innovative solutions daily, showcasing your expertise by providing ideas and working independently or as part of an R&D team.
The work model for this role is: onsite.
You will be mainly accountable for:
* Design, analyze, and document new/existing products. Create electrical models of power semiconductors.
* Simulate power electronic circuit breakers for various applications.
* Select components and engage suppliers for technical requirements and feasibility.
* Support the design of cooling systems, including estimating losses and efficiency. Design and simulate gate driver circuits.
* Maintain documentation of all designs. Collaborate with engineers on cross-functional tasks such as control, testing, and layout.
* Perform hands-on testing of products. Troubleshoot issues.
* Build and test simulation models and hardware demonstrators. Build test assemblies, run experiments, record data.
* Analyze test data and optimize solutions. Prepare technical reports.
Qualifications for the role
* MS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
* Knowledge in power conversion topologies, power semiconductors, thermal and electrical simulation tools (Ansys Maxwell/Icepak, SIMetrix, PLECS, Matlab/Simulink).
* Experience in designing, building, testing prototype converters, with expertise in component placement, insulation voltage, cooling, signal integrity, EMC considerations. Familiar with PCB design software (Altium Designer).
* Proficiency with digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, impedance analyzers, and familiarity with MATLAB, Python (NumPy), or similar tools.
* Experience with SPICE-based simulation tools and low voltage power conversion industries, DC applications.
* Good communication skills and a positive team attitude.
* Fluent in English.
