Position Summary
The Equipment Estimating Specialist is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical equipment (including static equipment, rotating machinery, packaged units, and associated ancillaries materials) across all project phases (proposal, feasibility, FEED, EPC). The role ensures that estimates reflect current market conditions, supplier pricing, internal benchmarks, and technical project requirements. Prepare and develop material cost estimates for the assigned discipline, in accordance with the required timelines and procedures, and based on the guidelines provided by the Estimating Leader.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Cooperate with the Estimating Leader in setting proposal activities. Establishes the materials estimation methodology, defining for each category of equipment the extension of recourse to the market for bid enquiry or the use of in-house estimates, providing indication to the Estimating Leader for issue the Cost Estimating Plan.
Cooperate with the Engineering Functions Specialist to define the actions and the required level of documentation and detail to be provided in support of cost estimation activities.
Prepare and develop material cost estimates for Static equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, columns), Rotating equipment (compressors, pumps, turbines, blowers) and Packaged equipment (boilers, water treatment units, refrigeration packages, filtration packages; solid handling sys, etc..).
Use internal historical databases, tender benchmarks, vendor offers, and recognized cost indices (e.g., CEPCI, steel indices).
Where required, prepare and issue RFQs to equipment suppliers during tendering. Analyze technical/commercial vendor offers. Prepare bid comparisons (TBE/CBE) in cooperation with engineering and procurement teams. Update cost models based on vendor feedback and market trends.
Maintain and update internal equipment cost databases. Normalize costs across regions, currencies, and time using escalation indices. Perform factorization, bottom‑up estimation, and parametric estimation depending on project phase and data availability.
Identify cost risks and define appropriate allowances and apply escalation and market adjustment factors.
Prepare Mechanical Equipment Cost CBE including estimate basis & assumptions. Identify possible technical optimization more economically in respect of the Tender documentation needed to ensure an appropriate level of competitiveness. Provide mechanical equipment cost to the Estimating Leader for integration in Cost estimate summary sheet.
Personal Attributes:
Degree or Diploma in technical disciplines
5-10 years’ experience in mechanical estimating/technical role in EPC/EPCm contracts, oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical and fertilizer sectors.
Fluent in English, other languages are a plus
Knowledge of mechanical equipment design and fabrication, static and/ or package & rotating equipment.
Strong and decisive leadership, combined with the right energy and resilience to deliver results
Availability to travel in Italy and abroad.
