Safety Design and Engineering Manager, WHS

This role ensures high safety standards are integrated into systems and processes across new and legacy Fulfillment Centres, Sort Centres, and Delivery Stations in 11 countries ranging from LATAM to APAC. The manager evaluates safety performance, conducts risk assessments, and works closely with cross‑functional teams to implement improvements.
Location: Mix of site and office work. Requires frequent travel (up to 50%). Candidates must obtain visas for all countries within their remit.
Key Responsibilities
* Support facilities by performing risk assessments for legacy and new launch sites.
* Lead safety technical reviews during project development to ensure compliance with Amazon standards and regulatory requirements.
* Manage the intake of support requests, prioritize the process, and engage the inspection team with projects.
* Coordinate with Engineering, Reliability, Maintenance Engineering, Procurement, New Build Safety and Real Estate teams.
* Conduct site WHS assessments, create punch lists, and review corrective actions to achieve acceptable risk levels.
* Track inspection program data and update it regularly.
* Ensure real‑estate and building design standards (global and geographic) are incorporated during construction or remodeling.
* Develop solutions that meet high safety, risk‑reduction, customer‑satisfaction, efficiency, scalability, simplicity and operational excellence standards.
* Support delivery of central Health and Safety proactive objectives.
* Escalate significant concerns and lessons learned identified during inspections and site visits.
* Provide input on change projects, build‑outs and development projects; act as technical advisor for the Western Regional WHS team.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering Technology or Reliability Engineering.
* 5+ years of experience in safety standards and related environments.
* Knowledge of diverse MHS, industrial mechanical and electrical systems, automation, controls and robotics.
* Experience working cross‑functionally with stakeholders to generate buy‑in.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences, including senior leadership.
* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Knowledge of robotics and material handling equipment (MHE).
* Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles or Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements.
* Master’s degree in a technical field.
* Experience working for a notified or approved body for machinery safety.
* Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent.
* Formal training or certification in machinery safety (e.g., CMSE).
* TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer certification.
* Experience managing projects with minimal supervision.
