Role Purpose
The HSSE Director will manage the implementation of JLL’s HSSE management systems on client sites, across an assigned geographic area, in EMEA. The most important objective of this role will be ensuring that our employees and contractors return home safe and healthy at the end of their working day, and we minimize our Environmental impact. Delivery of this will require a focus on incident reduction, consistent and proactive client engagement and close alignment across countries in the region.
This key account role provides tactical HSSE leadership, ensuring that all sites in their assigned geographic area are compliant with JLL, client, and local regulatory requirements. You will be the primary HSSE point of contact for countries in your assigned geographic area, responsible for deploying EMEA strategies at the local level, managing risk, and driving a strong health, safety and environmental culture.
This role will need to be highly visible, and the work is fast paced. The successful candidate must ensure that critical stakeholders, including employees and client teams, receive timely, relevant information and appropriate advice on HSSE matters. The role holder must have an acute eye for HSSE risks and be able to foster a strong culture of health, safety & environmental management, delivering world class results, improved productivity and flawless execution.
This position reports to the JLL Senior Director, Global & EMEA HSSE and will work closely with the Account Workplace Management Sub-Regional Leads, with regular reporting on HSSE performance. Other key stakeholders include Engineering, Quality & Compliance, Finance & HR team leads. Domestic and international travel will be required, expected to be 20-25% of working time.
What this job involves
Tactical Implementation
Implement account objectives and annual plans across your assigned geographic area, aligned to client expectations.
Manage and reduce HSSE risks by providing guidance and advice on risk management at all levels.
Implement contractor compliance monitoring and performance reviews in your assigned countries.
Deliver localized training programs, blending live and eLearning formats to meet country-specific requirements.
Complete prioritized site inspections, coaching site facility managers, addressing HSSE concerns and driving improvement.
Provide technical advice on relevant HSSE issues and communicate changes in legislation that will impact on service delivery and/or client operations, as the first point of contact for sites in your assigned area.
Monitoring, Response & Reporting
Support site teams in incident reporting and investigation processes, ensuring timely reporting compliance.
Perform country-level audits and maintain local legal registers to ensure compliance.
Support development of emergency plans and business continuity planning activities.
Collect sub-regional performance data and prepare reports for management reviews.
Participate in operational management meetings and hold regular update meetings with client site leads and other stakeholders.
Program & Culture Development
Actively support and implement key HSSE programs focused on Culture Development, Health & Wellbeing, and High-Risk Work Management.
Proactively develop and manage client relationships, ensuring expected service levels are achieved.
Establish effective relationships and work co-operatively with the wider account team and 3rd party vendors.
Promote a strong safety culture through programs like "One Team S.A.F.E.R Together," leadership training, and proactive communications.
Identify innovations and improvement opportunities to drive best practices across the account.
Our ideal candidate will have:
A minimum of 7 years of experience in HSSE management, preferably with experience across multiple sites or countries.
A degree in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, or a related subject, along with recognized professional HSSE qualifications.
Experience in the implementation and auditing of environmental, health, and safety management systems like ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Experience in Life Sciences manufacturing, GxP regulated environments, laboratories, or logistics environments is highly desirable.
Expertise in managing high-risk work, such as working at height, electrical work, and working in confined spaces.
Fluent in English and local language for the country you are based in, with proficiency in other languages an advantage.
