This person evaluates, critiques, challenges and produces engineering designs in their efforts to bring market-driven innovative solutions to BW customers.The Design Engineer will participate in all aspects of the innovation process, from new product Market Requirement Events to understand customer requirements, through project execution including conceptual and detail design, prototype procurement, assembly and testing, and final product proving in the field.The Design Engineer will actively participate in the lean product development processes employed at BW Flexible Systems, including project team planning events and daily scrums throughout each project.JOB RESPONSIBILITIESProvide technical input into the MRE process including VOC and competitor equipment information.Participate in project planning events including providing design time estimates.Produce designs that are fit for purpose, accurate and produced in a timely manner for innovation projects.Produce designs and drawings that comply with BWFS procedures and standards that apply at the time.Produce designs and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works 3D CAD package.Produce mechanical parts assembly drawings for all sub-assemblies as required for machine documentation and spare parts manuals.Work closely with the supply chain and production engineering teams to produce designs that meet the requirements of the chosen supplier base and are economical to manufacture.Create new parts in the Infor XA ERP system, including inputting all relevant data for that part as required at the time.Create new sub assembly and top-level machine BOMs in Infor XA as required.Work with the supply chain team, and directly with suppliers, to procure parts for innovation projects.Assist with the assembly of prototype machines and sub-assemblies.Assist with product testing and validation of finished prototype machinery both in BWFS sites and during Beta trials at customers sites in EMEA and the USA.Take on project engineering and management tasks as required, that are appropriate to your level of skill, training and experience.Be aware of and comply with all relevant European, UK and US regulations (particularly safety regulations) that apply to the equipment being designed.Provide technical/design input for, and potentially manage the creation of, equipment Technical Files.Contribute to the creation of equipment risk assessment documentation.Be aware of and comply with current H&S legislation regarding office/factory based working and when undertaking any other duties within BWFS global facilities.Undertake any other duties appropriate to your skill levels from time to time, to meet the needs of the business.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCEEDUCATION:B.S. Degree or broadly similar level in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field, from an accredited university or college.EXPERIENCE:Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in a designing role within a relevant industry with increasing levels of complexity and responsibility.Experience using 3D CAD – Solid Works preferred but any 3D CAD system is acceptable.OTHER: Periodic travel required in EMEA and USA, less than 20%.Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.Excellent verbal and written English.PREFERRED EXPERIENCEDesign engineering experience with packaging lines, automation, or manufacturing applications. Demonstrated mechanical and electrical/electronic troubleshooting aptitude and knowledge. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, suppliers, and customers at all levels.Able to effectively listen and respond to customer questions and needs - resolves problems to customer's satisfaction, with intention to exceed expectations where possible.Skillfully analyze problems, make sound decisions based on facts to reach logical solutions.Demonstrated ability to determine project urgency in a practical way, using goals to guide actions and generate detailed action plans.Responsive and able to work in a dynamic environment and set priorities with minimal supervision.Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience.Direct customer interface experience.Proactive and driven professional with demonstrated sense of urgency and concern for timeliness.Ability to prioritize workload, and multi-task as required.Experience in rapid new product development, Lean development or Agile methods.Packaging or packaging machinery experience.Good ability using MS Excel to capture design related calculations and analysis.Field experience in installation and/or troubleshooting.Experience working with internal supply chain teams and directly with global suppliers.Demonstrated ability to advance multiple projects concurrently as an individual contributor or as part of a team to develop a machine system or subsystem.
