THE ROLE
You will be working in a multi-disciplinary group, where people with different backgrounds collaborate, each with their own expertise, to support IIT research activity.
The Rehab Technologies Lab is coordinated by Matteo Laffranchi, who has extensive experience in the development of innovative high-tech robotic solutions for patients with physical impairment.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:
* Ideation and prototyping: generate concepts through sketching and prototypes.
* 3D modelling: create accurate NURBS and parametric models, Rhino and Grasshopper are preferable.
* Human-centered design: develop custom solutions tailored to the human body.
* Design for manufacturing: contribute to the development of physical solution, both aesthetic and functional, for additive manufacturing.
* Cross-disciplinary collaboration: work closely with engineering teams (electronics, biomedical, robotics, software) to ensure alignment between design intent and technical feasibility.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Master’s Degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Architecture, or a related field.
* Solid 3D CAD skills, Grasshopper is a plus.
* Creative problem-solving and attention to detail.
* Experience with 3D printing workflows and digital fabrication.
* Good hands-on prototyping and making skills.
* Strong verbal and visual communication abilities.
* Good command of spoken and written English.
* Interest in medical design, wearables, and human-centered innovation.
* Experience with simulation tools in an R&D context is a plus.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
* Design for manufacturing.
* Strong problem-solving attitude.
* High motivation to learn.
* Spirit of innovation and creativity.
* Good in time and priority management.
* Knowledge of design software (PTC Creo is preferable), other relevant tools are also welcome.
* Experience in the design/prototyping of medical devices.
* Ability to work in a challenging and international environment.
* Previous experience in working in team with other Engineers and to organize test/assembly operations made by Workshop Technicians.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
* A yearly gross salary which include a bonus option
* Private health care coverage
* Two days of teleworking per week and flexible working hours are available
* Candidate holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree who have not been resident in Italy in the last 3 years and move back to Italy to start any work activity, and meet specific requirements, can benefit from a 50% deduction on their income.
