Duties
Performs and/or assists other recreation/sports/fitness assistants or specialists in the operation and maintenance of indoor/outdoor recreation/fitness facilities/programs.
Establishes events as well as rules and regulations to be observed.
Ensures facilities are properly set up for specific events, including gymnasium and playing fields for sports events, tournaments, and practice games.
Sets up & tears down activities, including dragging/marking recreation areas for scheduled activities.
Demonstrates and instructs participants in the use of various equipment, providing guidance and safety instructions.
Inspects facilities and equipment for security and general conditions; determines need for maintenance and repair.
Records and monitors attendance; takes reservations, payments, and maintains financial documents; ensures adequate supplies are on hand.
Notifies participants of schedule changes.
Assists in monitoring, maintaining, and accounting for resale inventory and equipment.
Observes the condition and behavior of all patrons to ascertain potential problems; resolves problems when appropriate.
Instructs, cautions, and/or expels patrons as appropriate in accordance with facility guidelines.
Ensures facilities are open and equipment is operational; maintains cleanliness of the facility.
Answers telephones, assists customers, and provides requested information.
Operates washer and dryers to maintain cleanliness of items such as towels and uniforms.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment
This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special occasions.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination.

Eligibility: The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is U.S. Citizens or NATO country citizens with a valid U.S. permanent resident card and Social Security Number. In accordance with the Status of Forces agreement between Italy and the U.S., applicants must be at Aviano AB on orders and be a U.S. citizen or citizen of a NATO country with a U.S. permanent resident card. Italian citizens may not apply for U.S. NAF positions; they may be eligible for local national positions on base. Applicants must provide documentation proving residence status overseas. Legal U.S. residents must possess a social security number and be citizens of a NATO country. The 31st Force Support Squadron is not currently providing logistical support. Applicants must be a supported member of Aviano AB.

Qualifying Experience
Progressively responsible experience in a recreation program activity. Practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to safeguard and handle cash. Maintenance of various recreational equipment and facilities is desirable. Must be able to lift 40 lbs. or more and stand for an extended period of time.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
Foreign Education
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. Candidates must provide proof that the education credentials have been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.

U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. or U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of federal affiliation.
