Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self‐motivated Traction and auxiliary control Engineer who thrives in a fast‐paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Napoli, Italy.
Requirements Analysis & System Design
Analyze input requirements to define control architecture and detailed specifications.
Model and simulate propulsion systems and power converters to optimize component sizing and topology selection.
Required Skills / Knowledge
Expertise in vector control theory (FOC, DTC) for electric machines.
Dynamic system modeling and simulation using Simulink/Simscape.
Embedded & Real‐Time Systems: Proficient in C/C++, Python and Linux for embedded systems development.
Firmware development: microcontroller register programming, peripheral drivers, and interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC).
FPGA programming using VHDL for high‐speed control applications.
Power Electronics & Electric Propulsion: Strong understanding of power converter topologies (DC/DC, AC/DC, inverters).
Communication Protocols & Standards.
Software & Systems Engineering.
Model-Based Design (MBD) for control systems using Simulink/Stateflow.
Additional Competencies
Electric Machines: Deep understanding of PMSM, induction motors, and BLDC control techniques.
Testing & Validation: Familiarity with HIL/SIL/MIL environments for system verification.
Industrial Standards: Compliance with IEC 61508, ISO 26262, and automotive/railway safety norms.
Advanced knowledge of automation control theory and real‐time signal processing.
Experience with real‐time operating systems (RTOS) and Eclipse‐based toolchains.
Knowledge of electric/hybrid propulsion systems and electric machine control (PMSM, induction motors).
Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing (dSPACE, Speedgoat, OPAL‐RT).
Hands‐on experience with CAN, Ethernet, MVB buses and protocols (J1939, TRDP, TCN).
Knowledge of functional safety standards (EN50128, EN50657, IEEE1558).
Requirements management with IBM Rational DOORS.
Experience with automated code generation for embedded targets.
Fluent in English (professional proficiency).
