The Opportunity
We are looking for a Superintendent Planning to support the UG Planning team. The opportunity focuses on coaching and mentoring the national leaders in all aspects of Mine Planning whilst building best practice processes supporting the Mine Planning Framework. The role centres on Budget and Long Term Planning, leading the team to become best in class regarding Mine Planning and Caving excellence. This is a leadership role that requires suitable background experience in large complex UG mine operations.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career on a truly global project. Working 5 days on, 2 off roster residential in Ulaanbaatar with FIFO to site or FIFO internationally on 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster. The role will report to the Manager – Underground Planning.
* Superintendent Planning is responsible for delivery, quality and timeliness of Short-range planning, Medium-range planning, and Mine services activities.
* Lead the teams responsible for safely delivering Weekly plan, Rolling monthly plan (one month+2) and rolling annual plan (3 months+9) to enable execution of the long term mine plan;
* Provide leadership and direction to mine planning teams to ensure the safest and most efficient mining operations to achieve production targets;
* Integrate plans from other departments into short term and medium term mine plans and schedules for execution by the operations teams;
* Design and maintain the mine planning team Management Operating System (MOS);
* Act as the primary liaison with the mine departments to ensure an effective conduit for addressing Geotechnical, Ore Control, Production, Infrastructure and Long Term Planning issues;
* Weekly and monthly reporting of the performance physicals against the long term schedule and the performance analysis;
* Tonnes and grades forecasting and reconciliation;
* Preparing reports for the government and ensuring compliance with the statutory regulations;
* Ensure compliance to operational budget through effective cost management and contribution to the business planning process;
* Manage and mentor the professional development, training requirements and performance management of team members;
* Promote, participate in or lead Full Potential projects as required including staying up to date on industry innovations and best practice initiatives;
* Management of department business partners including obtaining required documentation, inductions, performance monitoring and records management;
* Ensuring all communications contribute to safe and harmonious working relationships and information is conveyed in a timely manner and in a format that is understood
* Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health at work and avoid adversely affecting the safety and health of other people through any act or omission at work
* Maintain documents associated with the team
* Act as a delegate for the Manager Technical Services as required
* Demonstrate proactive leadership and espouse the Rio Tinto Values at all times
* Promoting Oyu Tolgoi's reputation within the industry and government as a preferred partner by clear demonstration of corporate technical ability, economic credibility, commitment to sustainability and safety
What you will need for this role
To succeed in this role, you will have:
* Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline (Bachelor's degree or equivalent)
* Over 10 years of relevant industry experience, supported by substantial practical knowledge
* Strong background in Mine Planning, with demonstrated expertise in Budgeting, Life of Mine and Long Term planning
* Extensive operational experience in mass mining methods, particularly Block Caving or Panel Caving
* Highly proficient in PCBC software, with advanced modelling and scheduling capabilities
* Deswik Advanced Scheduling experience
* In depth understanding of the Theory of Constraints and System Capacity calculations
* Minimum of 5 years Operational/Technical experience in underground mining environments
* Proven problem solving skills with a solutions mindset
* Willingness and ability to work in remote locations for extended periods
* Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences
* Experienced in working within multicultural teams and committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment
