About the Role
We are seeking a Purchasing Supervisor, based in Italy, to oversee procurement activities for Jones’ EU supply base.
This role requires close collaboration with teams across Europe and North America and a balance of strategic and hands-on responsibilities — from developing supplier relationships and negotiating contracts to executing purchase orders and expediting deliveries. You will manage both direct (mechanical and electrical components) and indirect (utilities, capital equipment, services) procurement categories, ensuring alignment with Jones and Coesia’s objectives and delivering sustainable, long-term results.
1. Lead end-to-end procurement operations for direct and indirect materials across Europe.
2. Manage a small team of buyers and collaborate with cross-functional teams across Europe and North America.
3. Drive improvements in quality, delivery, cost, and cash flow through strategic sourcing and supplier management.
4. Execute both strategic and transactional purchasing activities, including PO placement, expediting, and supplier negotiations.
5. Develop and implement sourcing strategies, supplier evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Oversee procurement of a wide range of components (mechanical, electrical, commercial, custom) and services (utilities, maintenance, capital equipment).
What You Need to Be Successful
7. Strong expertise in procurement practices and supplier management, with the ability to lead negotiations and develop category strategies.
8. Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 3 years’ buying experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
9. Experienced in mentoring and coaching buyers on procurement best practices and commercial strategies.
10. ERP system proficiency (SAP and/or SYSPRO preferred) and data analysis capabilities.
11. Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical components, industrial processes (, milling, welding, surface treatments), and the ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
12. Experience in managing both strategic sourcing and transactional purchasing in a manufacturing environment.
13. Ability to work independently and make informed decisions that align with business objectives.
14. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively in a matrixed, multicultural environment.
15. Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives and develop standard processes to enhance efficiency.
16. Proficiency with MS Office and virtual collaboration tools; ability to travel as needed.
