1. Post Summary
Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Naples provides a resilient, static Joint headquarters to plan, prepare and conduct operations across all domains from Baseline Activities and Current Operations(BACO), including deterrence, through Crisis, up to the Maximum Level of Effort (MLE), in order tosupport NATO’s three core tasks, at the Joint Operational level, as directed by SACEUR. Supported by the Single Service Commands, Allied Joint Force Command Naples integrates allocated forces, including NATO Force Structure entities, and synchronises activity to achieve operational objectives. It maintains comprehensive, regional focused, situational awareness, leads contingency planning and directsexercises. It also provides out-of-theatre support to enduring NATO operations and could contribute specific Joint competencies to other NATO Command Structure or NATO Force Structure entities. It is capable of commanding a Joint Task Force operating within or beyond SACEUR’s Area of Responsibility, with theatre enablement provided by a dedicated Joint Logistic Support Group Headquarters. It has the capability to deploy tailored elements to enable reconnaissance, liaison, and coordination, and support the Joint Commander. Synchronizes and integrates Joint and Combined armed forces within the JointOperational Area (JOA) in support of a Joint Task Force.
The NATO Strategic Direction -South Hub (NSD-S Hub) contributes to information sharing, situational awareness and comprehensive understanding for both the operational and strategic levels to informdecision making. Monitor and assess the dynamics in the operating environment of the South andcontribute to coordination and synchronisation of NATO’s activities in the South.
The Head of Knowledge Management and Engagement (KME) is responsible for identifying, directing, validating, prioritizing, coordinating, and fusing NSD-S-related information and knowledge requirements and deliverables. The KME is responsible for reporting/advising the military and political strategic levels on NSD-S events while informing the tactical level. The incumbent establishes, develops and manages cross-functional and interagency information sharing tools to ensure access and dissemination of NSD-S Hub deliverables contributing to the establishment of a fused and comprehensive common picture of the situation in the South
The Knowledge Management Centre (KMC) oversees, reviews, fuses and coordinates the main work ofKnowledge Management and Engagement planning, information and knowledge gathering efforts,internal and external engagements, and develops and establishes formats, procedures and standards to maintain overall coordination, communication, accessibility, currency and accuracy. It ensures thecoordination with IS, IMS and Strategic Commands and the dissemination of Hub products that contribute to a fused understanding and situational awareness in the NSD-S area.
The incumbent is responsible for assisting the NSD-S Hub with the drafting, appraising, proofreading and editing of documents prepared by the NSD-S Hub and to ensure coherency, readability, syntax andgrammatical accuracy of final products using the highest academic English standards. The incumbent is expected to support the planning and coordination of online events and act as facilitator/moderator when required.
The incumbent's duties are:
- Drafts, appraises, proofreads and edits all public documents prepared by the NSD-S Hub.
- Acts as a sounding board for the use of the most appropriate form of the English language
throughout the analytical process and the development of final deliverables.
- Provides continuity to effectively ensure quality content and messaging from a NATO perspective.
- Ensures coherency, readability, syntax and the grammatical accuracy of all final products.
- Prioritises and conducts quality control assessments of all public documents for grammar, syntax,
punctuation and coherency to ensure accuracy and conformity with policy and document
layout requirements as required.
- Assists with the preparation of suitable correspondence destined for external recipients such as
the media, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), International Dignitaries or academics.
- Provides advice on the preparation of documents for external use, including structure, style and
coherency to ensure conformity with a variety of cultural differences.
- Provides quality control of the narrative and the English language used prior to publication of documents on the NSD-S Hub Website, newsletters and all Social Networks.
- Assists with providing guidelines to new and existing NSD-S Hub staff relating to the language and
styles most used in the NSD-S Hub on a daily basis.
- Provides English language expertise during the preparation and writing of NSD-S Hub documents and deliverbales as requested.
- Supports the planning and coordination of events, online and in-person, and acts as facilitator/moderator when required.
- Prepares and provides briefs and presentations when required.
- Ensures that the preparation and finalisation of speeches and presentations destined for use in diplomatic, academic and military domains conform to relevant narrative and highest possible academic standards.
3. Special Requirements and Additional Duties
The employee may be required to perform a similar range of duties elsewhere within the organisation at the same grade without there being any change to the contract
The work is normally performed in a Normal NATO office working environment.
Normal Working Conditions apply. The risk of injury is categorised as No Risk.
4. Essential Qualifications
a. Education
University Degree in Journalism, or post-related education field, with 2 years of function related experience, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training leading to aprofessional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.

- Experience as Editor, drafting, appraising, proofreading and editing public documents for a large Company or Organization
- Experience preparing suitable correspondence destined for Media, Subject Matter Experts, International Dignitaries or Academics
- Experience providing quality control of the narrative and the English language used prior to publication of documents and deliverables
c. Language
English - SLP 4343 - (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)
NOTE: The work both oral and written in this post and in this Headquarters as a whole is conducted mainly in English.
5. Desirable Qualifications
a. Education
Third Level Undergraduate or Post Graduate Degree in Political Sciences, Jurisprudence or similar.
b. Experience
-Proof of experience working (5+years) as editor or similar in a comparable professional environment.
-Comprehensive and broad professional experience in the use of the nuances and subtleties required to ensure documents are appropriately drafted, appropriately targeted and that the desired effect on the relevant audience is achieved.
-Broad-spectrum cultural background based on experience gained in multilingual and/or multicultural environments.
-Minimum 5 years’ experience in an academic writing capacity, e.g. Head Writer, Editor, etc.
-Extensive knowledge of military and non-military professional, multi-cultural environments.
Personal Attributes: -Handles multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating expert “shift” capabilities.
-Demonstrates ability to prioritise multiple requests quickly and efficiently in an autonomous manner to ensure deadlines are met.
-Possesses excellent communication skills, demonstrating tact and sensitivity when working with a large variety of colleagues from diverse civil/military/cultural backgrounds and with differing academicexperiences.
-Shows initiative and drive and is willing to travel at short notice.
-Works well both as a team member and autonomously.
-Possesses professional public speaking/presentation skills.

7. CONTRACTThe successful candidate will receive a three-year definite duration contract which may be followed by an indefinite duration contract.The basic entry-level monthly salary for a NATO Grade G15 in Italy is Euro 5,725.22 which may beaugmented by allowances based on the selected staff member’s eligibility, and which is subject to the withholding of approximately 20% for pension and medical insurance contributions.8.
