Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, thoughtful, collaborative and compassionate early-career educator to support the individualized learning needs of a bright and inquisitive 9-year-old student with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and auditory processing challenges, currently enrolled in a mainstream school.
This role is designed for an educator at the beginning of their professional journey who has foundational training in special education or learning support and is eager to deepen their practice through hands-on experience, mentorship, and ongoing reflection.
Working closely alongside a lead educator and wider support network, the successful candidate will play a key role in implementing structured learning strategies, supporting daily academic engagement, and contributing to a consistent and nurturing learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of individualized learning sessions across literacy, numeracy, civics and organizational skills, following structured guidance and established plans
- Collaborate closely with specialists, colleagues, caregivers and the family
- Assist in implementing accommodations tailored to the student’s needs (e.g. task chunking, visual supports, guided note-taking, assistive tools)
- Reinforce key concepts introduced in the classroom, helping the student access and consolidate learning
- Observe and continuously assess and track student progress and adjust instruction based on error analysis. Prepare and adapt learning materials under guidance to match the student’s literacy and math levels and processing profile
- Support the development of routines for homework, organization, and study habits
- Coordinate and ensure consistency of support
Candidate Profile
- Native or near-native English speaker (essential)
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a specific subject area, including special education, literacy, maths, arts, or science
- Recognized Teaching license/certification (US, UK, Ireland or equivalent)
- Experience with IB and/or Common Core curriculum
- Training in literacy, numeracy and child development; 2+ years of teaching experience
- Learning support credentials a plus
- Exposure to structured literacy approaches (e.g., Orton-Gillingham approach or similar) is desirable, but not required
- Willingness to engage in ongoing training in language-based learning differences (e.g. dyslexia), with a focus on evidence-based instructional approaches
- Demonstrates patience, pace-awareness, empathy (but with firm boundaries around effort and practice), and a genuine interest in supporting learners with diverse needs
- Organized, reliable, precise and detail-oriented
- Positive, calm, collaborative attitude and strong communication skills
Location & Schedule
- Based in the Northern Milan–Como area (candidate should already be located within commuting distance)
- Full-time, Monday–Friday (approximately 8:30–16:30), with some flexibility as needed
Professional Growth & Development
This role is intentionally designed as a developmental position for an educator who wishes to build expertise in learning support over time.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience supporting a student with specific learning differences in a structured, well-supported environment
- Develop practical skills in implementing evidence-based interventions and accommodations
- Learn how to observe, document, and reflect on student progress in a meaningful way
- Gradually take on increased responsibility in planning, adaptation of materials, and coordination
- Contribute to the development of structured learning approaches and systems over time
We are particularly interested in candidates who see this as the beginning of a longer-term professional pathway in learning support and inclusive education.
