The Sub-Regional EHS Manager is responsible for the effective management and execution of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs across Service Centers and field service operations of rotating equipment and turbomachinery servicing jobs within the defined sub-region. The role has direct accountability for EHS risk management at designated Service Center locations, acting as the primary EHS authority for those facilities.
In addition, the role provides operational EHS support across wider field service and sub-regional activities. Working in close collaboration with Customers, Operations, Site Leadership, and the Regional EHS Manager, the position ensures that EHS risks are identified, assessed, and controlled at the point of execution, enabling safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of all activities.
Specific Job Responsibilities / Competencies
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
Maintains full compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations and corporate standards, in particular, Italian legislation (D.Lgs 81/08).
Acts as the primary EHS authority and site subject matter expert on legislation, emerging regulatory trends, and industry best practice.
Leads regulatory inspections, agency interactions, and statutory reporting by INAIL, ASL, and other regulatory bodies.
Ensures all permits, licenses and approvals are maintained and effectively managed.
Responsible for leading the company through VCA recertification cycles and serving as the primary point of contact for all external VCA audits.
EHS Management System & Governance
Provides EHS leadership and support to field service activities, including pre-job planning and risk assessment, customer site compliance and contractor management and coordination.
Owns and continuously improves the site EHS Management System aligned to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Leads internal and external audits, statutory inspections and assurance programs.
Tracks, manages and closes corrective actions with senior leadership accountability.
Establishes clear governance structures, risk ownership and performance metrics.
Risk Management & Operational Control
Oversees risk assessments for all high-risk activities including contractor operations.
Ensures robust control of physical, chemical and ergonomic hazards.
Approves or challenges operational plans where risk exposure is unacceptable.
Exercises stop-work authority where necessary.
Incident Investigation & Learning
Leads and governs all serious incidents, near misses and high-potential events.
Ensures investigations are of high quality, root causes are identified, and lessons are embedded across designated EEE and customer sites.
Drives systematic learning and cross-site sharing of critical risks.
Leadership, Culture & Workforce Engagement
Coaches and influences site leadership on decisions affecting EHS culture and performance.
Acts as a visible role model for safe behaviors and professional standards.
Champions workforce engagement, speak‑up culture, and behavioral safety programs.
Embeds EHS into daily operations, planning processes and performance reviews.
Training & Capability Development
Oversees site EHS training strategy, curricula and competence frameworks.
Evaluates training effectiveness and implements innovative learning methods.
Ensures leaders and supervisors are equipped to manage risk effectively.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
Analyzes EHS performance data and trends.
Leads improvement initiatives aligned to Group, Regional and Site KPIs.
Drives continuous improvement through structured programs and targeted interventions.
Contributes to longer‑term strategic development and regional best practice.
Emergency & Crisis Management
Acts as the site EHS advisor during emergencies and critical incidents.
Supports business continuity planning and crisis response.
Provides professional leadership during high‑pressure events.
Background and Experience
Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science and/or Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
Minimum 5‑7 years’ experience in EHS roles with 3+ years experience within heavy engineering, manufacturing, energy, petrochemical, or similar high‑risk industrial environments having managed service centers or field service operations.
Strong working knowledge of UK and EU regulations and directives, with the ability to interpret and apply these requirements pragmatically within complex operational environments.
Mandatory comprehensive knowledge of Italian legislative decree 81/08; candidate must be a qualified RSSP.
Certified Lead Investigator with significant experience leading complex incident investigations.
Certified Lead ISO Auditor with experience in ISO 14001/ISO 45001/ integrated management systems.
VCA Certified; must possess a deep understanding of VCA protocols and hold a current certificate.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage across all organizational levels, contractors, and customers.
Proven ability to influence senior leaders, shape site culture, and deliver sustained improvements in EHS performance. xlwpduy
Base Location & Work Schedule
This is a full‑time permanent hybrid position based out of our office in La Spezia, Italy.
