The project :
Terra Innovatum's mission is to make nuclear power accessible. We deliver simple and safe micro-reactor solutions that are scalable, affordable, and deployable anywhere, 1 MWe at a time.
You will be joining a fast-growing scaleup developing SOLO – a micro modular reactor – capable of providing clean energy and radioisotopes where needed. You will support the reactor licensing process in the US initially.
You will assist the founding team in scaling up to a leading global energy solutions provider.
This is a unique opportunity to join a high-performance team developing a global energy solutions leader.
What you will be working on
Terra Innovatum Mechanical Systems Designer will be :
* Design, develop, and optimize mechanical systems and components used in nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other nuclear applications.
* Create detailed technical drawings, collaborate with engineers and regulatory agencies, and ensure compliance with nuclear safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
* Use CAD software to develop 2D and 3D models, perform mechanical analyses, and support prototype development and testing.
Potential next steps
As the company grows and plans international expansion in 2026, the right candidate may be considered for regional or global responsibilities.
What you will be in charge of :
* Design and develop mechanical systems, components, and assemblies for nuclear reactor applications, including piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and cooling systems.
* Create and modify detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings using software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CREO.
* Collaborate with nuclear engineers, project managers, and regulatory bodies to ensure design feasibility, safety, and compliance.
* Perform material selection, stress analysis, and thermal analysis to optimize performance under high-radiation and high-temperature conditions.
* Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards like ASME BPVC, NRC guidelines, and ANSI standards.
* Conduct engineering activities related to mechanical loads on systems and components, including pressure vessels.
* Assist in prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
* Revise designs based on testing, manufacturing feedback, and regulatory updates.
* Maintain organized design files and version control for nuclear components and systems.
* Support product lifecycle management, including design updates and safety improvements.
Who we want to work with :
* Education: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field.
* Experience: 2-5 years in mechanical design for nuclear applications, power plants, or industrial settings.
* Certifications (Preferred): CSWP, AutoCAD Certification, or equivalent.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CREO).
* Knowledge of mechanical design principles, material properties, and manufacturing processes specific to nuclear applications.
* Understanding of nuclear reactor components, cooling systems, and radiation shielding.
* Familiarity with ASME BPVC, NRC regulations, and ANSI standards.
* Experience with finite element analysis (FEA); CFD experience is a plus.
* Experience in tribology, seals, welding.
* Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
* Attention to detail, commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory deadlines.
* Excellent English communication skills.
* Preferred: PhD, IPO experience, fluency in Italian, and ability to influence across organizational levels.
