Job Overview
The Product Portfolio Manager is responsible for strategically managing the company's overall product portfolio, ensuring that each product line aligns with the company's strategy, market demands, and financial objectives. This role maximizes product value, optimizes return on investment, and supports long-term growth through product portfolio planning, resource allocation, and performance management. Key Responsibilities
1. Product Portfolio Strategy and Planning
Develop and continuously optimize the product portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategy and market positioning.
Assess the role and priority of new products, products under development, and mature products within the portfolio.
Participate in product roadmap and lifecycle management decisions.
1. Investment and Resource Allocation
Prioritize products and projects based on market opportunities, risks, and returns.
Support the rational allocation of resources across product development, marketing, and operations at the product portfolio level.
Participate in annual and long-term product investment planning and budget development.
1. Performance and Value Management
Establish and monitor key metrics at the product portfolio level (e.g., revenue, profit, market share, ROI, risk exposure, etc.).
Regularly assess the health of the product portfolio, identifying redundant, inefficient, or high-potential products.
Drive decisions regarding product sunsetting, integration, or increased investment.
1. Market and Business Analysis
Analyze industry trends, competitive landscape, and changes in customer needs.
Translate market insights into opportunity and risk assessments at the product portfolio level.
Support and challenge business assumptions for individual products or product lines.
1. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Governance
Collaborate closely with product management, R&D, marketing, sales, finance, and senior management.
Establish and promote product portfolio governance mechanisms (e.g., review committees, stage-gate reviews).
Provide clear, structured product portfolio analysis and recommendations to management for decision-making.
1. Process and Methodology Development
Establish or optimize product portfolio management (PPM) processes, tools, and methodologies.
Promote data-driven, transparent, and standardized product decision-making mechanisms.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in business administration, engineering, computer science, marketing, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in product management, product strategy, or related business management.
In-depth understanding of product lifecycle management, product strategy, and business analysis.
Excellent data analysis, business judgment, and structured thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing multiple product lines or platform-based products.
Familiarity with product portfolio management tools or frameworks (e.g., BCG matrix, Stage-Gate, OKR, etc.).
Experience in cross-regional or global product portfolio management.
MBA or relevant management background.
