POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you a creative and motivated design student eager to apply your skills in the real world? We are looking for an Landscape Design Intern to join our architecture team! In this role, you’ll work hands-on with our team to design unique and inspiring spaces. You’ll gain experience with materials, Italian design regulations, and permaculture. Your tasks will include drafting, scaling, researching and contributing ideas to bring concepts to life. As a Landscape Architect intern, you will commit to a 4-9 month internship, dedicating 40 hours per week. Note that you will be responsible for covering your own food and accommodation expenses during the internship.
This internship will take place in Ragusa, Italy for 4-9 months and starts in May-June 2025.
Requirements
KEY ACCOUNTABILITY
* Conduct on-site observations and site analysis.
* Conduct research on Mediterranean landscape designs, local flora and regulations.
* Create 2D/3D renderings to visualise design ideas.
* Contribute to the implementation of sustainable design solutions, including green energy initiatives and regenerative water management practices.
* Analyse and refine property drawings to elevate design concepts.
* Support the purchasing of materials and supplies to meet project needs.
* Actively engage in the renovation process by offering professional insights and guidance.
* Play a key role in material selection, property layouts and balancing both style and practicality for each project.
* Communicate landscape proposals that balance permaculture and technical considerations with aesthetics, user experience and business perspectives.
* Propose research driven improvements to the landscape designs of different properties.
* Carry out other project duties as needed (due to the nature of the work, we cannot predict all project needs in advance).
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
* Advanced level of spoken and written English. Knowledge of Italian and Silician language is a plus.
* Love and curiosity about nature and Mediterranean landscapes.
* Good analytical skills — excellent sketching skills, digital imaging to enhance and manipulate concepts.
* Be resourceful and think outside the box to create more with less.
* Possess the ability to consider the client and research driven insights above personal opinion and personal aesthetic expression.
* Proven track record and/or ability to demonstrate personal reliability and teamwork.
* Consistently do what they say they will do; proactively communicate with those impacted by their work.
* Independently manage their time to complete work in a quality manner.
* Ask for help when needed and look for opportunities to support the whole team to achieve goals.
* Is organized, detail-oriented, and flexible.
Must know: Computer-Aided-Design (CAD), 3D design modelling and rendering tools (Revit, 3Ds Max, Twin Motion).
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Landscape design. (Participants from other design disciplines such as architecture may be considered if the candidate also have experience in ecosystem restoration, permaculture, syntropic farming, regenerative farming, and/or related area(s).
* A Master’s degree is a plus.
* Ability to be proactive and work independently to drive projects to completion.
* Take ownership of the projects and always dedicated to driving them forward.
* A true problem solver with start-up mentality; ability to come up with creative solutions when confronted with challenges.
* Possess adaptable mindset and can-do attitude.
