Grid Works Manager
The Grid Works Manager acts as the client's lead for all grid connection activities, ensuring the delivery of grid bay, MV and HV cable route, and associated works safely, to the required quality, and in compliance with project requirements through effective programme management, technical coordination, and stakeholder engagement. The role is central to achieving safety, quality, compliance, and timely energisation across all grid works. Key objectives include:
Acting as the Client Project Manager for the Grid Works
Serving as the single point of contact between the User, the network operator during execution, and other key parties such as EPC, permitting authorities, etc.
Ensuring a credible and coordinated works programme is in place to align lead times, and meet energisation dates.
Coordinating key workstreams and stakeholders, ensuring technical and contractual compliance.
Providing client oversight of technical submissions, quality and safety documentation, and progress reporting.
Working closely with the Cero Project Manager, Grid Manager, to integrate grid works into the wider project delivery.
Project & Programme Management
The key objectives are to ensure that a credible and realistic programme of works is in place to allow for the project to meet its connection timelines.
This will be achieved by:
Ensuring programme reflects connection dates from TSO.
Equipment lead times are fully accounted for.
Works methods statements are sufficiently developed to ensure that they are feasible and fit within required outage windows as well as other constraints.
Acting as the main interface with the TSO project manager coordinating technical and programme management activities.
Provide all reporting requirements to Project Manager (e.g. monthly reports, minutes of meetings, organising meetings and general communications).
Work with Cero project manager to produce regular programmes and schedules required by TSO.
Chair the monthly Contractor Progress Meeting.
Represent Cero in TSO‐related meetings as required.
Provide oversight and advisory support on the management of all grid related works.
Track and Monitor progress against the overall construction programme and highlight risks to schedule. Suggest and implement mitigation measures where required.
Fill in and update project risk register with key risks and mitigations.
Technical and Design Interfaces
Coordinate technical communications and submissions with Terna, e‐distribuzione as applicable, and other relevant authorities.
Oversee technical submissions to ensure completeness and compliance with Italian standards and project requirements.
Liaise with internal stakeholders (Cero Grid Team, Legal, Procurement) and external parties (EPC, OE, ICP, site teams).
Provide expert advisory support on TSO processes, specifications, and technical standards.
Site Works – Cable Duct Installation
Act as the client's lead and on‐site representative for all grid works, ensuring works are executed in accordance with approved specifications, method statements, and risk assessments.
Supervise and witness key inspections, hold points, and tests (including FAT/SAT).
Monitor construction and installation works (civil, structural, electrical, commissioning) for all HV/MV infrastructure.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Support
To support the HSE manager for the project highlighting constraints and risks concerning the Grid Connection Works.
Assist the HSE Manager in identifying and reporting any conditions that could pose risks or hazards to the Grid Connection Works.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Inspect installation of major equipment and ensure as‐built documentation is accurate.
Review and comment on commissioning procedures and switching plans.
Witness commissioning of HV/MV systems, including protection, SCADA, and Power Park Controllers.
Support confirmation of energisation milestones (EON, ION, FON or Italian equivalents).
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain oversight of all technical and contractual submissions.
Track and report progress against programme milestones.
Ensure all as‐built documentation, records, and compliance data are properly delivered and filed.
Maintain a daily/weekly log of site activities, issues, and progress.
Escalate risks to schedule, quality, or compliance, with proposed mitigations.
Reporting Line
The GWM will report to the Project Director (or equivalent) and work closely with the Cero Grid Team (Senior Grid Manager) and other project stakeholders. The GWM will provide technical observations and recommendations and will have authority to coordinate with contractors and elevate issues as required.
