Subsea Controls Engineer (Shallow Water Pipeline Project) Subsea Controls & Instrumentation Engineering
Develop and review technical specifications for subsea instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, valve sensors). Review and validate instrument data sheets, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and loop sheets. Ensure instrumentation correctly integrates with Subsea Control Modules (SCMs) and Master Control System (MCS). Oversee the design of electrical/hydraulic circuits within umbilicals related to subsea controls.
Control System Design & Functional Logic
Develop control narratives, functional logic diagrams, and cause-and-effect (C&E) matrices. Verify communication protocols including Modbus, CANbus, Ethernet, and fiber-optic systems. Ensure all design activities comply with API 17F, API 17O, ISO 13628-6 and project standards.
Operational Philosophy Implementation
Translate the project operational philosophy into implementable control strategies. Develop and validate control modes (automatic, manual, remote, local). Establish safe and maintainable operating sequences for startup, shutdown, ESD, pigging, and chemical injection.
Interface & Integration Engineering
Coordinate technical interfaces with pipeline engineering, umbilical/FOC teams, subsea vendors, and topside ICSS teams. Maintain and monitor interface registers and ensure timely closure of interface actions. Ensure system alignment prior to FAT, EFAT, and SIT. Prepare, review, and approve FAT, EFAT, SIT, and commissioning procedures. Witness SCM, MCS, and instrumentation testing, including calibration and loop checks. Support offshore commissioning, energization, and functional validation of subsea controls.
Operational Assurance & Troubleshooting
Provide onshore and offshore technical support during operations. Analyze diagnostic data, condition monitoring outputs, and fault indications. Investigate and resolve instrumentation or control logic anomalies. Strong knowledge of subsea instrumentation and control hardware. Expertise in SCM, MCS, HPU systems, CI lines, and subsea ESD logic. Experienced in reading and preparing P&IDs, I/O lists, and logic diagrams. Ability to convert operational philosophy into robust control strategies. Offshore SIT/commissioning experience (preferred). Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Engineering from an accredited university. Minimum 12 years of relevant engineering experience after graduation. Excellent spoken and written English, with proven ability to prepare specifications and technical reports.
