EA srl, a proud member of the Alfanar Group, is looking for a highly skilled and experienced MEDIUM VOLTAGE RMU R&D ENGINEER, with a strong background in designing and developing Medium Voltage Ring Main Units (RMUs) using fuse-switch protection and dry air (SF₆-free) insulation technology, ensuring compliance with IEC standards. The engineer will be actively involved in design, 3D modeling, prototyping, manufacturing support, and type testing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and development of Medium Voltage RMUs with: fuse-switch disconnector solutions; Puffer-based switching technology; Dry air insulated systems (SF₆-free design);
* Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings of RMU components and full products;
* Translate design concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions considering: Electrical performance; Dielectric clearances and insulation; Thermal behavior; Mechanical strength and safety;
* Ensure product compliance with: IEC 62271-1, IEC 62271-200, IEC 62271-103, IEC 62271-105;
* Support dielectric and thermal design of current-carrying parts and insulation systems;
* Work closely with production and industrialization teams to ensure: Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Cost-effective solutions, Smooth transition from design to production;
* Prepare technical documentation: General arrangement drawings, Manufacturing drawings. Bill of Materials (BOM), Technical specifications and reports;
* Participate in and support type testing activities at accredited laboratories;
* Analyze test results and contribute to design improvements and optimization;
* Collaborate with simulation, quality, sourcing, and production teams during development.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering;
* 3–5 years of experience in Medium Voltage switchgear or RMU design.
Mandatory Technical Skills:
* Practical experience in Medium Voltage RMU design;
* Hands-on knowledge of: Fuse-switch combinations, Puffer switching technology;
* Experience with dry air insulated or other SF₆-free switchgear designs;
* Good working knowledge of: IEC 62271-1, IEC 62271-200, IEC 62271-103, IEC 62271-105;
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, Catia, or similar);
* Understanding of: Current path and thermal considerations, Dielectric design and insulation coordination, Mechanical design of MV enclosures and components;
* Exposure to type testing of MV equipment.
Preferred Skills:
* Experience with design optimization for cost;
* Familiarity with simulation tools (thermal, electrical field, or mechanical);
* Experience working with international testing labs (CESI, KEMA, LOVAG, etc).
Soft Skills:
* Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset;
* Hands-on, practical engineering approach;
* Ability to work on multiple development tasksGood communication skills in English (Italian is a plus);
* Team player in an international R&D environment.

* Compensation: Gross Annual Salary (RAL) starting from €50K to €80K (commensurate with experience);
