Pay Stipend: 4220.89 (over 10 months) Tournament pay: 150 a day Coaches receive a food stipend for travel tournaments. Travel and boarding are covered as well. The Director of Debate will be focused on overseeing the debate team at San Marino High School. The team competes in predominantly Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and Policy Debate styles, with an interest in expanding more into Parliamentary and World Schools Debate. The director should be able to coach at some level each style of debate. The director should help guide students into styles of debate that best fit each student. The director should help facilitate tournament participation and help students meet their educational and competition goals. The director should help facilitate debate partnerships and tournament sign-ups. The director will help students use Tabroom. All coaching staff members will be expected to uphold San Marino Unified School District, NSDA, and CHSSA community standards. Directors are expected to pass a school district required background check and hiring process. This position is paid as a contractor position by the San Marino Unified School District. Contracts are renewed at the end of each school year. Experience - Debate coaching experience at the high school or college levels. - Proficient knowledge of TOC and NSDA debate styles. - Knowledge of NSDA, CHSSA, and TOC debate regulations - Policy and or circuit LD experience preferred. - Experience attending debate tournaments as a coach and judge. - Knowledge of TOC bid tournament opportunities. Work Requirements - 2 practices a week: - Practices are 2 hours in length, Monday and Wednesday, 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at San Marino HS. - Attend Welcome Weekend Event - Saturday, August 16th from 9 AM to 4 PM - The event is to help students prepare for the year. - Attending tournaments: - mainly local, with some travel tournaments. Does not need to attend all tournaments. Should attend 2 tournaments monthly on average. - Tournaments expected to attend: Jack Howe Invitational, SCDL League Debate Tournaments, *CHSSA State Championship, and *NSDA National Championship. - Students must qualify for the tournament, and director attendance is predicated on debate student qualification. - Judge at tournaments they attend as not the lead chaperone. - Attend biweekly director meetings - meeting to be max of 1 hour, with expectation for most meetings to be 30 minutes - Meetings will be online - Help create and run drills at practice - Judge practice debate rounds - Be involved in interschool scrimmages - Help with case creation - Provide a Topic Analysis on some debate topics - Help with ballot review - Guide students in events and tournaments that fit their educational and competition needs - Help with tasks delegated by the Director of Forensics.
