Electrical Services Director
PURPOSE:
Electro-technical first point of contact shoreside for the ships assigned to their management. Supports onboard electrical operations regarding any electrical systems and equipment issues issue that may require a higher level of expertise in this specific field such as automation, electronic and electrical engineering.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support to the Technical Superintendent(s) in their day to day activities for any electrical issue that may require a higher level of expertise in the specific field.
- Verify and approve ship's requisitions for spares, service and consumables within area of responsibility, issuing as well shoreside requests of materials and service.
- Assist the Vice President Electrical Services with planning both yearly and long-term maintenance budgets for the vessels, closely monitoring monthly progress of relevant expenses.
- Participate in planning and preparation, for the areas competence, dry-dock specifications, following ship's repair and maintenance during refit works, as applicable.
- Cooperate with the Vice President Electrical Services and Technical Superintendents for the preparation of plans for modification/updates, to be implemented on existing vessels due to new upcoming safety regulations.
- Maintain active involvement in structuring, implementing, and monitoring the company’s safety management systems within the area of assigned responsibilities. Participates in the company incident response plan.
- Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for position.
- Perform other job related functions as assigned.
- Travel to dry docs, on ships: 3 months a year.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree, Technical/Electrical Engineering degree or related field of study; or equivalent combination of experience and skills.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in electrical engineering. Management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge in safety and environmental protection policies with ability to effectively execute established regulations.
- Knowledge of maritime compliance codes and safety regulations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Planning and organizational skills to manage ship electrical maintenance and dry-dockings.
- Ability to successfully manage projects within prescribed timelines and budget guidelines.
- Interpersonal and supervisory skills to manage electrical staff onboard effectively
- Good planning and organizational skills to manage ship maintenance and dockings independently.
- Trouble-shooting skills to identify issues and make recommendations.
- Ability to make safety and environmental standards a priority in daily decisions.
- Good verbal and written command of English sufficient to communicate clearly with internal and external partners.
- Ability to travel onboard according to business needs.
