The School of Chemical Engineering at UNSW invites applications for a Research Associate position to conduct scientific research on long-duration energy storage systems. In this role, you will work on the development of monitoring and control mechanisms for vanadium flow batteries.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to writing scientific papers and reports, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and engage with industry partners. You will have the chance to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally.
You will be working closely with Professor Jie Bao and have no direct reports. This fixed-term contract is 12-18 months duration.
About the Role
* Conduct research on modelling, monitoring and control of flow batteries independently and as part of a team.
* Develop monitoring and control mechanisms for vanadium flow batteries.
* Collaborate with industry partners and participate in conferences and workshops.
* Supervise HDR students and contribute to writing scientific papers and reports.
Requirements and Qualifications
* PhD in Engineering or relevant work experience.
* Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
* Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team and collaborate across disciplines.
* Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
* Demonstrated experience with dynamic modelling, process control and flow batteries design, monitoring and control.
* Strong mathematical skills.
