Missions
The European Gravitational Observatory (EGO) seeks an Optics Physicist for its Optics & Controls Department.
Activities
The candidate will work in the EGO Optics team, focusing on the interferometer optics and related issues, collaborating on upgrades of the Virgo interferometer and R&D for future detectors.
Main tasks include:
* Design and commissioning of the Advanced Virgo+ injection subsystem
* Optical simulations and design for upgrades
* Design, setup, and maintenance of optical cavities
* Studying and mitigating scattered light
* R&D for current and future detectors
Essential skills
* PhD in Physics or related engineering
* Knowledge of laser physics and equipment
* Experience with optical systems
* Good English skills
* No criminal convictions
Other skills
Assets include:
* Experience in experimental optics, electro-optic/magneto-optic components
* Optical cavity design and control
* High power CW lasers, stray light measurement
* Optical simulation tools (Zemax, Fred, Optocad)
* Basic electronics knowledge
* Italian and/or French language skills
* Teamwork, problem-solving, proactive attitude
Work Context
EGO is an international consortium based in Cascina, Italy, hosting the Virgo gravitational-wave detector, involving over 130 institutions across Europe.
