Position Summary
The Assistant Athletics Trainer, under the license of our Team Physician, will assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in all activities related to the delivery of health care to our varsity student-athletes in assigned sports (football assistant + primary on another sport). This includes working cooperatively with the Strength & Conditioning Staff. Design, implement, and supervise treatment and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes, maximizing and individualizing training programs to achieve outcomes.
All duties must be completed in compliance with University, Conference, and NCAA regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Coordinate and supervise Villanova’s Division I varsity athletic programs (including primary sport(s)). Responsible for all phases of student-athlete healthcare.
* Assist with supervisory duties of sports medicine facilities, implementation of drug testing, hiring, budget oversight, and policy development.
* Design and implement treatment and rehab programs for various cases.
* Serve as liaison among Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, and Physical Therapy staff.
* Coordinate with Student Health Center and outside medical providers.
* Maintain electronic medical documentation for all student-athletes.
* Perform additional duties and assist with coverage and special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in sports medicine/athletic training or related field; current NATA certification; Pennsylvania Athletic Training Class A Certification; CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer.
* Two+ years of athletic training experience, with extensive post-surgical rehab experience.
* Knowledge of healthcare insurance and drug testing protocols.
* Proficiency in medical documentation, communication, and instructional skills.
* Ability to utilize therapeutic modalities and rehabilitative equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working with football.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
* Work outdoors in various weather conditions, travel, and early morning/weekend hours.
* Must be physically able to lift equipment and assist athletes physically.
