Reporting to the EMEAI Field Service Manager, this Field Engineer is responsible for providing state‑of‑the‑art onsite services (installation, preventive maintenance, break‑fix/troubleshooting call‑out, site survey, etc.) and technical support to customers for our range of Auto ID products, especially our stationary industrial scanners and cameras.
Main Responsibilities
- Install (mechanical, electrical), configure, and start‑up (commissioning) Datalogic equipment at customer sites according to predefined specifications.
- Maintain, re‑stamp, adjust, and replace onsite Datalogic devices in existing customer systems.
- Follow safety and security onsite company procedures rigorously.
- Escalate problematic issues that cannot be solved independently to the upper technical level.
- Issue timely and accurate service reports, including expense reports.
- Build and maintain respectful relationships with customers by consistently adopting an exemplary attitude.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as electronics.
- Languages: German (primary) and English.
- Experience: Preferred 2–3 years of prior experience in field service activities in automation or a similar market involving electrical and electronic devices.
Other Information & Specific Skills
- Read electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Troubleshooting and diagnostic experience with electromechanical and software components.
- Good understanding of computer networks (LAN, VLAN).
- Good understanding of network protocols (TCP‑IP, UDP, FTP, SFTP, HTTPS).
- Good understanding of serial communications (RS‑232 & RS‑485).
- PLC communication experience (PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Ethernet‑IP).
- Experience working with industrial automation devices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (MS Dynamics is a plus).
- Willingness to travel: 90 % within Germany, up to 10 % outside the country.
- Flexibility to work before standard hours, overnight shifts, and occasional weekends (10–20 % of the time).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Resident in Germany (Colonia or Düsseldorf area preferred).
