What will you do?
Amazon Shipping seeks a Senior Data Scientist with strong pricing and machine learning skills to work on an embedded team, partnering closely with commercial, product and tech. You will develop demand‑prediction models for Amazon Shipping’s spot‑pricing system, improve price discovery, measure model impact, and define a roadmap to expand the models into new use cases. You will collaborate with business and software teams to research, innovate, and solve high‑impact economic problems facing Amazon Shipping worldwide.
Key job responsibilities
* Combine ML methodologies with fundamental economics principles to create new pricing algorithms.
* Automate price exploration through automated experimentation methodologies, such as multi‑armed bandit strategies.
* Partner with other scientists to dynamically predict prices to maximize capacity utilization.
* Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and software developers to integrate models into production processes and influence senior leaders.
* Educate non‑technical business leaders on complex modeling concepts, and explain modeling results, implications, and performance in an accessible manner.
* Independently identify and pursue new opportunities to leverage economic insights.
* Explore potential expansion into other domains such as causal analytics, optimization, and simulation.
About the team
Amazon Shipping’s pricing team empowers our global business to find strategic harmony between growth and profit trade‑offs while seeking long‑term customer value and financial viability. The team tackles problems ranging from CEO‑level strategic support to in‑depth mathematical experimentation and optimization.
Basic Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience as a data scientist or in a similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling, and communication.
* 5+ years of experience with data‑querying languages (e.g., SQL), scripting languages (e.g., Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g., R, SAS, Matlab).
* Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science; or a Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of professional or military experience.
* Experience with statistical models (e.g., multinomial logistic regression).
Preferred Qualifications
* 2+ years of experience in data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, or R Shiny.
* Experience managing data pipelines.
* Experience as a leader and mentor on a data science team.
Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $159,200.00 – $215,300.00 annually for the USA, WA, Bellevue location. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and location.
