Overview
Data Center Controls Engineer, Data Center Capacity Delivery - Controls, DCC Communities AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the services they rely on. You will join a diverse team of engineers and specialists, collaborate across AWS, and help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing capacity at lowest possible cost. You will work with a global controls team to troubleshoot, manage projects, and maintain the building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS), developing new processes and standards in the controls space. AWS Data centers include components such as generators, power systems, switchgear, UPS, VFDs, ATS, chillers, pumps, and cooling infrastructure. The BMS controls these mechanical systems, while the EPMS monitors electrical systems. Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis or corrective action for BMS and EPMS issues in AWS data centers. Train and assist internal customers and stakeholders with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of BMS and EPMS. Provide technical assistance and support to operations during the data center life cycle. Review results from quarterly BMS/EPMS maintenance and take actions to resolve items. Develop BMS and EPMS project scope of work, schedule, budget, and level of effort (LOE) for customer and stakeholder projects. Manage scope, schedule, finances, and execution of BMS/EPMS improvement projects in AWS data centers. Assist in procurement activities including RFIs/RFPs, vendor proposals, and purchase orders. Participate in AWS global on-call schedule to provide immediate BMS/EPMS technical support to in-service data centers. Attend project meetings, coordinate with project leaders, and report status to Controls and stakeholder management. Support commissioning activities and review/iterate on controls sequences of operation (SOO) with feedback to the design team. Develop and modify controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces. Manage multiple stakeholder deliverables and navigate challenging situations. Financially manage BMS and EPMS service contracts. Frequent on-site visits to assigned data centers to troubleshoot, meet customers, and supervise vendor work to ensure scope and code compliance. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Experience taking new design concepts from exploration through deployment or mass production. Experience with MS Excel, Word, and Windows operating systems. Experience with power management and power monitoring systems. Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure. Knowledge of critical data center equipment and engineering documentation, electrical diagrams, and SOPs. Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA. Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure. Experience reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all domains.
