Many leadership teams find that their most significant challenges are not related to their core products or services. Instead, the friction lies in the way they work. As organizations grow, decision paths become cluttered, priorities fluctuate without clear reasoning, and meetings often create more questions than they answer. This organizational noise slows down progress and exhausts talented people.
Olive Tree Consulting Group exists to solve these structural habits. We look for the patterns of coordination that have become heavy over time and help teams return to a quieter, more functional way of operating. To support our consultants in diagnosing these patterns, we require a Data Analyst Intern who can translate organizational behaviors into clear, readable insights.
About our mission
Olive Tree Consulting Group helps leadership teams handle the messiness of management when ordinary work becomes unnecessarily difficult. We focus on the friction that occurs when decisions, priorities, and responsibilities do not move through a team as cleanly as they should. Often, the issue is not a person or a single meeting but a pattern that has become heavy or unclear over time. We do not arrive with rigid frameworks or complex software. Instead, we work alongside teams to refine their existing habits, helping them establish clearer decision paths and a meeting rhythm that actually serves the work. Our goal is to create a quieter management pattern that allows leaders to focus on the work itself rather than the coordination around it. We believe that management should be light enough to be useful without becoming the primary burden of the day.
About the role
The Data Analyst Intern plays a foundational part in our diagnostic process. While our consultants spend their time in interviews and observations, you will be looking at the quantitative side of organizational habits. You will analyze information related to meeting frequencies, communication volumes, and project timelines to help us identify where friction is occurring. This is a role for someone who appreciates the beauty of a well organized spreadsheet and understands that the data we collect represents the time and energy of real people. You will be responsible for cleaning raw data sets, creating simple but effective visualizations, and spotting trends that might help a leadership team realize they are spending too much time talking about work rather than doing it. This is a fully remote position that offers a deep look into the mechanics of organizational behavior and management consulting.
In this role
On a typical day, you will be working closely with a senior consultant to prepare for a client engagement. You might start by organizing a large set of calendar data to determine how much time a specific executive team spends in internal versus external meetings. You will look for anomalies and patterns, such as periods of high meeting density that correlate with low project completion rates. Later in the week, you will likely spend time drafting internal reports that summarize these findings. You will also help us maintain our internal database of organizational benchmarks, ensuring that our historical data is accurate and categorized correctly. Much of your time will be spent in focused, independent analysis, followed by clear written communication with our team to explain what the numbers are telling us. We value precision and clarity over speed, so you will have the space to ensure your work is accurate before it is presented.
What we need from you
We are looking for someone who is early in their data career but already possesses a strong sense of intellectual curiosity. You should be highly comfortable using spreadsheet software like Excel or Google Sheets, particularly with functions related to data cleaning and basic statistical analysis. Since this is an internship, we do not expect you to have mastered complex data science tools, but you should have a firm grasp of how to structure a data set so it is useful for others. You must have excellent written communication skills, as we rely heavily on written notes and documentation to share ideas. A respectful, calm approach to problem solving is essential here. You should be the kind of person who enjoys finding the signal within the noise and can stay focused on a single task until it is completed to a high standard. We value honesty and transparency, especially when you find that the data is inconclusive or points in an unexpected direction.
Helpful background
While not strictly required, it is helpful if you have a basic understanding of organizational psychology or business management theory. If you have experience with data visualization tools or a basic knowledge of SQL, that can be useful for some of our larger projects. Any previous experience in a role that required high attention to detail, such as research assistance or administrative support, will serve you well. We appreciate candidates who have a background in the social sciences or humanities and have transitioned into data analysis, as they often bring a unique perspective to how they interpret human behavior through numbers. Most importantly, we are interested in individuals who have a history of working independently and can manage their own schedule in a remote environment without feeling overwhelmed by the lack of a traditional office structure.
What the role offers
Working with us means joining a professional environment that values your time and your focus. This is a fully remote position that allows for a high degree of flexibility in how you structure your day, provided the work is completed with care and precision. We offer a stipend that is competitive for an internship level and provides a respectful entry into the consulting world. You will gain direct exposure to how high level management decisions are made and how organizations function behind the scenes. Our culture is one of quiet professionalism, where we avoid the frantic pace of typical consulting firms in favor of steady, thoughtful progress. We ensure that our interns are treated as contributing members of the team, with opportunities to see their analysis directly influence the advice we give to our clients. You will find that we prioritize a healthy balance between work and life, believing that our best thinking happens when we are rested and have been given the time to focus properly on the task at hand.
