Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to act as the system-level owner of hydraulic architecture for our redox flow battery technology. The role has a primary focus on containerized systems, while also contributing at stack level to ensure proper hydraulic integration, performance consistency, and scalability across the entire system.
Reporting directly to the Head of Product, this position plays a key role in defining system architecture, technical trade-offs, and scale-up strategies. The Senior Hydraulic Engineer will lead hydraulic design choices from concept to implementation, coordinating simulation, testing, and validation activities.
The role includes technical leadership of hydraulic topics across the product and direct coordination of a CFD Engineer, working closely with mechanical, electrochemical, and control teams.
Responsibilities
- Act as system-level owner of the hydraulic architecture for stacks, modules, and containerized systems
- Define and develop container-level hydraulic layouts, including piping, manifolds, tank interfaces, valves, sensors, and auxiliary components
- Contribute to stack-level hydraulic design, ensuring alignment between electrochemical requirements and system constraints
- Perform and oversee hydraulic calculations and design validation (flow distribution, pressure losses, operating regimes, scalability)
- Coordinate and technically guide CFD activities, defining simulation objectives and reviewing results
- Select and size pumps and hydraulic components, ensuring system efficiency, reliability, and long-term performance
- Interface with the Head of Product to support system-level design decisions and roadmap definition
- Support scale-up activities from laboratory and pilot setups to full containerized products
- Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and internal design guidelines
- Act as a technical reference for hydraulic topics within the organization
Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
- 6+ years of experience in hydraulic or fluid system design at system level
- Strong expertise in fluid mechanics and hydraulic system architecture
- Proven experience coordinating or mentoring CFD or simulation engineers
- Proficiency with CAD tools and CFD simulation environments
- Ability to operate effectively at both component and system level
- Strong engineering judgment and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
