As we expand our operations across Europe – we are looking to recruit a Data Center Engineer in Milan (Mechanical/Electrical).
Responsibilities
* The Junior Facilities Engineer is responsible, as part of a team, for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency. This involves planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues.
* Interact with Data Facilities Engineers, clients, and vendors to support data center operations.
* Provide comprehensive data center white space support for IT infrastructure, including monitoring, troubleshooting, reporting, and day-to-day maintenance as per service level agreements.
* Use event monitoring and management systems to provide notifications and escalations to stakeholders during service outages.
* Operate on a 2-shift pattern including night shifts.
* Test and install data center infrastructure equipment and services with senior colleagues, vendors and other stakeholders.
* Ensure operational services functionality meets or exceeds customer expectations for performance, reliability, escalation and communication as per SLA.
* Resolve service-affecting incidents and/or outages with vendors; troubleshoot problems and place service calls when needed.
* Perform maintenance, day-to-day operations, and checklist-driven functional maintenance to ensure reliability and resilience of the data center environment.
* Manage/monitor physical access to data centers and execute Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) when required.
* Train new staff on processes and procedures related to the above.
Skills/Qualifications/Knowledge
* Basic knowledge of site facility infrastructure regarding power, thermal management and associated systems.
* Working knowledge of facility equipment including pumps, compressors, CRACs, UPS, generators, switch gear, BMS, life-safety systems, security systems and more.
* Ability to work with senior colleagues, team members, vendors and stakeholders to test and install data center infrastructure equipment and services.
* Excellent English and Italian communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Problem-solving skills; ability to analyze, isolate and resolve site and customer-facing issues; proficient in monitoring and troubleshooting.
* Experience with stacking and racking of servers, battery/power, and structured cabling is desirable.
Preferred Requirements
* Bachelor's degree (Electrical/Mechanical) and/or equivalent data center work experience.
* Practical experience with mechanical or electrical systems.
* Proven track record of success and delivering results.
* Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills conducive to team development.
* Physical ability to lift 18-23 kg (40-50 lbs) regularly and to use server lifts or pallet jacks.
