The role of the Commodity Buyer is to manage relationships and negotiations with suppliers, pilot the utilization of supplier panels in programs and series production during sourcing, and ensure supplier performance. Job Description Electrical Insulators Commodity Buyer This position is responsible for deploying and developing the commodity strategy for its assigned commodities, specifically electrical insulators. The role of the Commodity Buyer is to manage relationships and negotiations with suppliers, pilot the utilization of supplier panels in programs and series production during sourcing, and ensure supplier performance. Key responsibilities Responsible for subcontract sourcing, proposal evaluation, negotiation, award, execution, and administration of subcontract purchase orders from new part production to the production environment. Ensure timely procurement and on-time delivery performance for assigned commodities and suppliers with an annual spend of $10 million. Lead activities supporting production needs impacted by vendor performance with minimal impact on inventory levels. Participate with the direct manager in negotiating strategic agreements with vendors for stocking and pricing. Assess vendor performance and lead vendor improvement activities to reduce risks to production and ensure compliance with Terms and Conditions of Purchase. Identify strategies and opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and manage risks through strategic negotiations. Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, internal stakeholders, operations, engineering, and quality teams. Manage the invoice-to-pay process by ensuring accurate pay terms, timely release of payments, and resolving discrepancies. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and capabilities Ability to understand engineering data and assess required flow-downs to vendors. Ability to understand customer commercial data and assess required flow-downs to vendors. Experience working with SAP (ERP system). Understanding of technical data. Experience in contract negotiation with cost savings. Knowledge of commodity markets. Strong negotiation skills. Understanding of the procurement lifecycle and compliance activities. Attention to detail and project management skills. Excellent presentation and communication skills.
