The Connected Living Solutions Business Unit is looking for a Senior R&D Product Development Engineer to design and develop Terminal and Splices and Connectors. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and documentation of new products, from market definition through production and release. You will determine specifications, perform engineering analysis, make preliminary sketches and designs, and coordinate support operations such as fabrication engineering samples and testing. You will also maintain legacy products, including VAVE activities, customer inquiries, and manufacturing support.
Your main tasks:
1. Lead product development for Terminal and Splices and Connectors, from market definition to production release.
2. Collaborate with customers, TE Product Managers, Sales, and Field Application Engineers to translate Voice of Customer (VOC) into TE design concepts and preliminary specifications.
3. Conduct feasibility studies, including mechanical and thermal simulations.
4. Develop detailed 2D/3D designs, perform DFMEA and tolerance analysis, and build and validate prototypes.
5. Manage product qualification and final specifications.
6. Provide technical support to Operations for efficiency improvements and successful product launches.
7. Resolve product issues and manage ECN and PCN processes.
8. Support projects through the LEANPD Project Process, ensuring on-time, quality, and budget completion.
9. Provide technical support to customers, sales, project management, and plant teams, including testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and verification.
10. Collaborate with global manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to meet technical, quality, and cost objectives.
11. Develop technical documentation, including design drawings, requirements, change notices, and design history files.
12. Maintain legacy products, including VAVE activities, customer inquiries, and manufacturing support.
Your ideal background:
1. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
2. 4+ years in mechanical engineering, focused on electrical components, device design, mechanical structures, tooling, or process development.
3. Knowledge of connector design, material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, and product qualification.
4. Proficient in 3D design tools (e.g., Creo, Spaceclaim) and GD&T.
5. Experience with finite element analysis tools (e.g., Ansys Workbench) as an occasional user.
6. Skilled in writing design objectives and product specifications.
7. Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and DFM principles.
8. Fluent in English (verbal and written).
9. Comfortable working across time zones and collaborating globally.
10. Strong problem-solving skills, able to handle moderate complexity using data analysis and critical thinking with guidance.
