We are looking for an Expert System Development & Design with a main responsibility in developing integrated machinery and propulsion systems for ships. The preferred location for this position is Stord (Norway), but also Vaasa, Turku, Helsinki (Finland), Gdynia (Poland), Trieste (Italy) and Shanghai (China) are negotiable. We offer a possibility to hybrid work.
Your role and responsibilities
As an Expert System Development & Design your work will be focused on developing integrated power generation and propulsion systems for ship applications, that fulfil customers’ technical and economical requirements and support Wärtsilä’s strategy towards Decarbonization of the maritime industry. Your responsibilities include:
1. Explore alternative machinery concepts for propulsion and electric power generation and conversion, with strong focus on identified customer values.
2. Develop machinery concepts based on a strong Data-Driven Design approach and evaluate alternative concepts through system simulation tools.
3. Participate actively in customer meetings, with the ability to understand customer's values and requirements, and present machinery concepts meeting these.
4. Participate in Co-Creation projects with ship owners, ship designers and other stakeholders.
5. Assist internal teams in developing and refining detailed functional descriptions of the system.
6. Maintain open and active communications with a network of relevant internal and external stakeholders.
7. Contribute to development studies on innovative marine propulsion technologies.
The tasks can also be adjusted based on your individual skills and interests. You’ll be working as a part of an energetic and solution oriented Initial Design team with diverse expertise.
Requirements for the position:
8. Relevant academic background, preferable M.Sc. degree in Engineering and/or Naval Architecture.
9. Good general knowledge about propulsion products and ship systems, preferably Wärtsilä product knowledge.
10. Technical knowledge in Integration and Marine Systems.
11. Experience in Excel and PowerPoint.
12. Fluent written and spoken English.
