Position: .6 Long Term Sub - Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP)
Location: Lake Garda Elementary School
Reports to: Building Administrator/Special Education Supervisor
Starting Date: January 2026 for an undetermined period
Region 10 Schools is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and student-centered Speech-Language Pathologist to join our dedicated team at the elementary level. This position will provide direct services and consultation for students in our specialized Autism program, supporting students with complex communication needs as well as providing services for students in grades PreK-4. The SLP will play an integral role in fostering communication growth, developing functional language, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure student success across educational settings.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide speech and language therapy services to students in the BEST Program and to students with IEPs, in both individual and group settings
* Conduct comprehensive speech and language evaluations and develop individualized goals aligned with IEPs
* Develop and implement augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies and systems, as appropriate
* Collaborate closely with special education teachers, general education staff, BCBAs, occupational therapists, BTs, and paraeducators
* Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and contribute to IEP development and progress reporting
* Provide training and support to staff and families on communication strategies and use of AAC
* Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all federal, state, and district regulations
Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Connecticut Endorsement 061 - Speech and Language Pathologist Required
* ASHA CCC-SLP preferred
* Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, particularly in structured and specialized classroom settings
* Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), including high- and low-tech systems
* Functional communication development and behavior-communication connections
* Evidence-based practices for language and social communication interventions
* Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team framework
* Strong data collection and analysis skills to monitor progress and adjust interventions
* Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and school-based compliance practices
* Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
