Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a fast‑paced technology company and a leader in the world of data centers. AWS is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Senior Manager to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. The Senior Manager is one of our most senior management roles in the data center environment. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a large organization, managing department heads who own data center facility infrastructure, and overseeing the operational availability of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The ideal candidate will understand data center IT infrastructure, data center facilities infrastructure, and how the two coexist. You’ll lead a diverse team of software/hardware, and network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, engineering technicians, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

* Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including facilities managers, chief engineering managers, and engineering operations technicians.
* Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
* Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center build‑outs, new colocation build‑outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the entire mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure to facilitate the daily operation.
* Operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for Amazon data centers, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and change management.
* Managing vendor relationships for colocation data center service providers, if required, to meet or exceed contracted performance SLAs.
* Overseeing a preventative maintenance system and adherence to schedules, evaluation and performance of infrastructure supporting data center operations.
* Balancing internal skillsets with frugality through successful insourcing or outsourcing of specific maintenance tasks.
* Responding to and resolving safety, security, and availability incidents.
* Continuously improving operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
* 10+ years of data center engineering or operations experience.
* 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience hiring, developing, and managing high‑performing technical teams.
* Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
* Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations, with a deep understanding of electrical and mechanical data center infrastructure.
* Knowledge of information technology infrastructure domains such as compute server platforms, storage server platforms, server components, network devices, technologies and architectures, IT service delivery principles and best practices.
* Ability to operate independently as a manager of a geographically distributed Infrastructure Operations management team.
